With enough space for two to fit comfortably, the Klymit KSB double sleeping bag comes with plenty of creature comforts to keep you and your partner cozy in the backcountry. It’s made of a soft, DWR-treated silnylon fabric and insulated with lofty, 650-fill-power down that's easy to compress and pack Read More
I've used the full setup twice now, for 6 days total, and the quilt-top twice now, for 4 total days. I purchased this thing for over-landing, originally, because it's massive, heavy, and I've taken my KSB 20*F down to 0*F with no problems. I take my two Shepard-Huskies backpacking/car-camping a lot, but am always worried for them when it gets cold -- call me soft. The little lady, and both dogs can pile into this thing. I needed a way to get her out into colder weather, too, and this was her soft entry. We split-carry with the KSB Double-Insulated pad, it fits fine inside of my Tarptent Double-Rainbow, and we don't have to deal with two separate sleeping pads. SHE likes it, and hasn't complained about being cold, and that is a huge victory for me. I'm alright with the bottom insulation, though I wish it was just thin fabric or something. I prefer this because I don't like the feel of sleeping pads against my skin when I'm warm/hot/sweaty if I can avoid it. I understand wanting to go lighter weight, and do. This is roughly an 8lbs setup, split between 2 people, and covers my dogs -- it's not THAT egregious, weight-wise. I'm happy with the purchase - hike your own hike. There is some form of DWR on the quilt-top. I flipped it upside down accidentally, and woke up a little moist. Right side up, I noticed no issues. The quilt is large enough to cover she and I without taking the base, YMMV.
Was really excited about this... then saw the weight. Holy crap, both thermarest and zpacks have a double quilt that's less than half the weight of this thing. The thermarest is actually about the same price as this anyway. Really wanted to be excited about this because I just bought the Double V Insulated Ultralight - but an extra 4.7 pounds? Yeah how about no? If I'm car camping I don't need a quilt like this - I can just bring sheets and blankets lol.
Was really excited to see if this would be a lighter-weight option to my BA King Solomon. Afraid not. Someone said there’s insulation on the bottom? What a shame. Without that it would definitely be lighter than my BA, which went without under insulation to save weight. For clarity, the BA King Solomon weighs the same as this bag.
Just got mine in. I wanted to give my first impression and answer some questions I had.
First off, i'm 6'3" and I fit in it easily with some feet space. The two draft blankets are a lot nicer than expected! I can't wait to try out. The hood is large, easily put a pillow plus your head inside of it. The buckle in the center seems to hold pretty well and hopefully doesn't pop during movement with 2 people.
It can hold 2 Static V Lite pads!
It's snug but works, I wouldn't try anything larger than the V Lites though. I got 2 of us into the bag and shuffled around and the pads did not separate! Insulation looks pretty evenly filled. With some lofting will probably make it better, no thin sections. The stuff sack is decent, same as the airpads. No compression straps though, big miss in my book. It's long so most likely will need to carry outside of my pack. The storage mesh bag for long time storage is sturdy construction.
Overall I would give it a 7/10. I will report back once i've had a chance to use it a few times.
" It’s made of a soft, DWR-treated silnylon fabric "
Uhh, I hope that's a typo or just poor facts. Silnylon aka silicone-impregnated nylon is WATERPROOF. You do NOT want a waterproof sleeping bag because it will not breathe - you and your lovey dovey will be waking up in the middle of the night soaked in sweat. I hope they meant it is simply plain nylon coated with a DWR treatment. Were I to seriously consider this, I would want to clarify that it is not actually made of silnylon.
