Really nobody can answer the question below? It's pretty basic.

Are these four segments or three? The text says four but the photo shows three.

SierraHDThe pole has four sections. What appears to be the top section is actually two pieces, a thinner one that fits inside the larger one with the handle. This allows adjustment in height. The two sections meet at the flick-lock mechanism. @SierraHD

How do these compare to equivalent Leki and Black Diamond models? I'm not too concerned about price.

INeedAName1234567890These are on part with BD and Leki poles. These are made in Europe, use flick-lock mechanisms for secure adjustment, and are very high quality. They are backed by Komperdell's excellent warranty. (sorry for the late response)

Anyone have experience with these and the Fizan poles? How do they compare?

DrYoloI hiked from Oberstdorf to Meran with Komperdell poles and they do what you want them to do. I only have the aluminium ones which are a bit cheaper and heavier, but the locking mechanism is the same and it's awesome. After one day of hiking the height adjustments were at exactly the marks I adjusted them to be and the grips are quite nice too.

There appears to be a typo in either the description or the spec listing for these. The "Compact" spec section says 15 oz. *per pole*, but the description above says the weight is 7.5 oz.

Agreed on the shipping costs. $51 to get them to Canada. Kills the value.

jkstraw@jkstraw check it out now - we have corrected the international shipping price and it should be more in line with what you're expecting. Should save you something like $30-40! Thanks for commenting!

I just went to join the drop, then noticed the $72.50 shipping charge to get it to Australia. Is this for real?
I never paid this much to get the Fizan poles sent here, and I've paid far less to have far heavier items shipped from Massdrop. There never seems to be any rhyme or reason to the shipping charges on this site.
EDIT: I just went back to my transaction history. I paid $13 to ship the heavier set of Fizan poles to the same address.
If the shipping cost does turn out to be an error and I join the drop, does Komperdell have cork grips suitable for this pole, and if so is it possible to have them added as an option on the drop?

weggsYes, there was an error in estimating the shipping cost. This has been fixed and the shipping is much more competitive now. Thanks for bringing this to our attention! Hopefully you get this message in time to join. Cheers.

DannyMilksThanks @DannyMilks! I'm in.
I'm guessing that's a no to the cork grips?

I bought a pair of Komerdell Vario 4 compact 2 years ago for $175,this looks like a great deal.Comparing the descriptions of my poles and these they are much the same. They make a great product, very light and the way they adjust is simple(clip) is very secure.I have an alluminium set from Black Diamond that have the same closures they have never failed even after 15 years,.

I could, but it's kind of a pain. Despite how packable z-fold poles are, I decided to go with aluminum and telescoping for my own piece of mind plus they got cork grips. Not like the poles actually /need/ to go in the pack...

I'm thrilled to be working with Komperdell - they make some of the best poles in the world. The Carbon Expeditions are light, strong and compact enough to fit into a backpack. Komperdell actually lists these poles in the Mountaineering portion of their website, so you can take these hiking with confidence. They fold down just like Black Diamond's Carbon Z poles but unfortunately we don't have a photo of this on our site, so check out this picture from Komperdell:
