Could I use this as a simple Midi input device (to do note entry in Finale, for instance)? I understand it's full functionality, but with the USB port, could it also "stand in" for simple input when needed into a computer? If so, that would clear some clutter from my workstation and still allow me to rock this baby. (I'm used to dealing with a rather touchy ARP 2600, so I'm little in awe of a digital analog of an analog device!)

ssmilesIts midi compliant so all you would have to do is plug in and in Finale go to preferences and set up the midi device. Inputting notes on a musical keyboard layout is far easier than pointing and clicking on a staff. It also beats the computer keyboard shortcuts by far.
