I bought a pair of these off Amazon two years ago.
Sadly the build quality was absolute garbage. They were full of static and noise (to the point of drowning out the music). Also the entire thing feels very cheap, nothing like how a one thousand dollar set of headphones should feel like (I bought it at full MSRP).
I exchanged them for a new pair from Amazon. The replacements sounded exactly the same. I returned them.
If you really want to try electrostatic headphones. Try to get another Stax drop. The build quality is in a completely different league.

ziggyI really cannot agree with you.
I had an ESP950 and a STAX3030 before, and I am using STAX005MKII. ESP950 sounds more naturally comparing with STAX, but not that "electrostatic", which you can find on STAX . The sound characteristic is a mix of electrostatic and hi-end dynamic headphones. Its quality looks not that good because of the outdated body styling and plastic material, but it is light and durable. At this price, what else would you expect?

ziggyCan not believe you had such a bad experience. Really wish you could have reconciled a solution with these because they sound amazing. Lots of people have owned an ESP950 without issue. Most of those people love them for what they are. The lightweight construction has nothing to do with build quality and I would ask you... what mechanical aspect of the headphone failed you?
If I were you I would have exchanged it with Koss or bought from Koss directly. A working ESP950 (not a rarity) sounds beautiful. It is a stunning headset.
