Bought these on a lark. God knows I don't need any more cheap open cans. But I was intrigued. Still have KSC-75s, which were the first headphones I bought myself that I was ever really enthusiastic about. These remind me of those, but have a more solid fit and are less sparkly up top, maybe also a bit more bassy (not in an overwhelming way) because of the better fit. Very listenable mid-fi sound. Just like the KSC-75, this gets loud very, very easily - no amp required. Love the headband design - doesn't get caught in hair or cause problems, very comfortable. The cable also seems much more durable than the dinky one that the KSC-75 comes with. Easier to fall asleep in compared to larger over-the-ear phones because of how thin they are in comparison (though I guess the same could be said for many on-ear open phones). Haven't used the built-in mic, but could potentially be very convenient - trying to use IEMs on phone calls is super-disorienting, and it'd probably be better than my computer's built-in mic for Skype/Hangouts calls. Overall this is a decent upgrade over the 75, whose only advantages are price (I think I've seen it under $10 on Amazon sometimes) and form factor/portability (these don't fold in any way so they'll be harder to fit in a jacket pocket or whatever). I'm not sure if I prefer the regular color scheme to the Massdrop one, but I suspect the retroness of the Massdrop version will grow on me. I'm much less curious about getting a PortaPro, which I had been eying for several years, at $10-20 more than this now. IMHO this should be the new go-to recommendation for basic open-air headphones, with the KSC-75 as a budget pick (though no less venerable). (Alternatively, if you listen to music with another person a lot, and are sick of dinky little speakers, a couple of KSC-75s and a splitter is a cheap, easy, super-portable way to do that effectively, thanks to how efficient those phones are. Much better than just buying a splitter and hoping for the best between headphones that could have wildly different levels at the same volume, anyway.)

bilditup1So apparently the PortaPros fold up. I had forgotten about that. That might be enough of a feature to command a $16 premium, but it's a trade-off.

bilditup1I know I'm replying to this late, but yeah the Porta Pros fold up extremely small. Like super, super small.
