it says we can add a skein for $5, correct? If so, we could buy 2 skeins of one color, 1 skein at another color to get the drop price and then add one more skein at $5 of the second color to be able to make two pairs of socks. Is this correct?

Yes, that is correct! Once you hit commit or Join you'll see it all clearly when you have to make the selections.
