I received the Kyosho Rage drop earlier this month. The car is shutting down after only a few minutes of operation. How long should the battery last or is this an overheating issue?

HTRookieHi HTRookie,
Are you using the included battery that came with the vehicle? Also is it being charged for the entire duration (5-6hrs)? The battery that comes stock with the vehicle will last anywhere from 8-15 mins depending on how liberal you are with the power, brushless motors consume quite a bit of power to deliver the blistering speeds they are capable of. Any more information you can provide will help me figure out what is happening with your vehicle.

DaveHoffYes, original battery and yes, fully charging. In the manual, under troubleshoot, it states the car has automatic shut down for overheating (I believe this might be what's happening) . The car will shut down and after a moment (seconds) and then will resume power. This will happen several times before I believe the battery to be dead. One of the suggestions is to try smaller pinion gear. I don't know what size pinion gear the car comes with. I've checked factory website and the only part I found was a pinion gear (size?), factory says backordered...could this be what I need?

HTRookieHi HTRookie,
When you run the vehicle and the problem is occurring can you leave your hand on the motor for a few seconds? Is it so hot that you have to pull your hand away? If so it seems like the vehicle is having thermal issues and the ESC is preventing further damage. If the motor is warm but not unbearably hot to the touch, I believe you may have a defective charger and it not properly charging the battery resulting in very short run times (mins or even seconds) and the vehicle is shutting down. Please conduct the hand/temp test and let me know how hot the motor is please and we will go from there!

HTRookieStarting off fully charged on edge of golf course, hard packed ground and short fairway grass. After 90 seconds of run time at moderate to high speed, car shut down for approximately 10-15 seconds. Car starts up again for approximately 1 minute, then shuts down again. Each shut down lasts a little longer up to 30 seconds. Motor was checked and was slightly warm but not hot. From there I took it to flat asphalt with the same result stopping up to 1 minute. Red light flashes when the car is not running, when light quits flashing, car will run again. Car was run for 15 minutes and seemed to be going slower than it should. Motor was never hot.

HTRookieHTRookie,
This seems like a speed control issue rather than a battery issue. Please try to find the "ESC Calibration" section of your manual and follow its steps to recalibrate. There may be an issue with the vehicles speed control recognizing its end-points, this can cause the vehicle to start and stop or to not move at all. Please try to recalibrate, you may also want to try to search on a forum for the the flashing code the ESC is giving you. If both of these attempts yield no change in performance please contact our CS team and they will help you with a replacement! I'll also do a little more digging around for the error code your ESC is giving you.

DaveHoffI've recalibrated ESC. Car ran a bit longer before first shutdown. I suspect that fan is not operating correctly. Item #4 in checking operation (page 14/15) does not exist to help me check fan. Is there anyone in the Phoenix area to help?

HTRookieMine has the same exact problem. I've tried all the same things as well. I think it's an overheating problem, which shouldn't be a problem stock right?
