Back on massdrop I see. It's a little bit confusing for me to determine which model this is. I'm new to tube amps. Is this the same "upgraded" version that Shenzhen sells?

AdamleonpetersYes, this is the most current version. It uses green capacitors (can be seen thru bottom of amp ) i have posted pics in this thread and they are on headfi as well. this is best price u will find. there is a good thread on headfi on 339. I got mine on last drop :) this comes directly from yuking. Best OTL under 1k imho. She’s a beauty!

MarcSpenceSo massdrop is selling the version with the "brighter" tube set is that correct?

Adamleonpetersyes, that is my understanding, but i believe it is newer version of what is on yukings website, based on conversations on headfi and guys who have recently been to yukings shop.

MarcSpenceIt’s a shame that we are not offered a choice between the brighter set up sold here and the warmer set up that is also offered on the manufacturer‘s website. I’m very interested but I am not wanting another bright sounding amp.

MusicLoverOrdering from the manufacturer will cost $890.00 delivered to USA. I looked at the site and a couple of others (China). The return policies differ (in case of damage or defect) and the manuf. site was not real tasty on this(i think), and the only place that offered the warmer set up. But...can't we just get some different tubes? Do you know of any "quality" tube amps in the 650.00 and up range that sound too bright with the right tubes? The last time this dropped, it sold out in a very short time (10 units) and I missed it. I'm shocked this drop has not sold out! The reviews are stellar, and the 339's rarely show up on ebay unless there is something wrong with 'em. If ya get a "good" unit, horrah. If not, massdrop will take it back. Lots of hassle to send back to China if defective/damaged($$) and customs is probably gonna open your new purchase to an individual USA address, and the re-wrap may increase the damage potential. I do not know if the bulk shipment to massdrop is treated differently(all pkgs opened, spot checks, or whatever by customs). Massdrop will ship to us in a pristine box (i think) with the new address label and it will not be opened for inspection after massD ships to USA add.; and if your box is bashed on the outside(rough trip?) take some pics and if it is damaged call cus. svc and send it back. These are my thoughts as a total noob here, so take it easy on me. I joined the drop. I do not know for sure if the guts are different on the "warmer" set that costs 30.00 extra. And, in addition to that, MarcSpence, has said there may be a possibility of this unit being different from the two units listed on the manuf. site.(guts or just tubes?) The last drop here did have the newest "green" capacitors, see pic here in this discussion. Sorry for the long post but I would like more info if anyone has it. For the "possible" reasons I have mentioned, this is the best deal ever on a powerful, quality tube amp that I can afford, with relatively easy return if defective/damaged. If I get a good unit, that is end game for me. Just think, separate amps for each channel, yumm.

EyeStrikeI look forward to your review. I’m just a little too picky sometimes. The manufacturers site also shows an all black version which I would appreciate as well. For this kind of money I just don’t want to settle for anything less than what I would want.

MarcSpenceI don’t own this amp but I am very interested in it. The manufacturer’s site says that this set up is the brighter set up and they offer the option for a warmer set up. This is what the manufacture‘s site says: How do I know which input tube to choose? The 6J4P, 6SJ7, 5693, 6Ж4С version is brighter The 6C5, 6J5, 6J5G, 6J5GT, L63 version is warmer

MusicLoverThey are very similar..bright vs warm is not a good description...as i have have been told by a few legit headfi guys.. Vast majority have the “bright” version. Keep in mind this model has been out for many years...yuking upgrades them often without changing model/version... i bought the unit from massdrop because it is yukings latest version with green capacitors and almost everyone uses/has the ”bright version” so it makes it easy to talk tube rolling with people. Again, it is not a bright amp! depending on your experience and expertise, you can have a unit custom built or buy the warmer version. I am a novice and all my research led to buying from massdrop or yuking direct. Hope this helps, as i had the same question months ago and ended up getting the massdrop unit.. maybe one day i will have yuking build me a custom one for big bucks...lol

MusicLoverAlpha dogs, hd6xx, he4xx and soon to add ZMF autuers.. anything high impedance dynamic or planar will knock the house down. For reference, I have a SS Burson CV1 with BB dac and the 339 takes the base and euphonics to another level.. Burson is “brighter” and it NOT a bright SS amp. 339 and CV1 are complementing, everyone should have a ss and OTL/SET :) I am researching a new R2R dac...gumby is on my list...that will be a major sound signature change from my Delta sigma DAC....btw my 339 even plays well with my efficient hd598! Would think iem would be no go, but that could be tube dependant

I agree. I was hoping for the All Black version but I guess I will take a chance and purchase the version here. I’m curious how it will pair with Focal Clear, Beyerdynamic T1.2, and my favorites the Audeze Lcdxc & LcdX Thanks again for all the helpful information.

MusicLoverCongrats (I hope). I too would have preferred the black unit, having only seen pics. But it looks like the 339 lettering on the black is a bit extreme with the contrast. Maybe we will get lucky (seems one member got a black one on a recent drop by mistake, was supposed to be only silver drop). We are getting a GREAT deal with this drop. Yuking wants to ship parts if there is a problem (and you gotta fix or pay for the fix). If it needs to be returned then you would have to pay shipping to return (if I read this correctly from the website). It weighs so much, that is the killer and return shipping the deal breaker. So, we save 240 on this deal with peace of mind with damage/defect and customs fouling things up as well. I could possibly take the 240 hit, but the damage/defect would be too much to risk imho. Lets hope it ships sooner, my new nfb 11.38 limited edition dac/amp awaits. Still available for two days. 100 hours of testing, 10 year warranty and much fairer return with Kingwa and it sounds awesome even though my 6xx have not shipped yet.

Thanks. There are lots of choices here on massdrop for amps, dacs, & amp/dacs but if I can snag a good 339 unit for 6&1/2 biscuits that is end game and no shipping (no tax 4 me) for the 25lb monster. Again, I can not believe this has not sold out yet (only 5 units left). Come on members....as Huey Lewis would say: "JUMP"

maheeOn Kingwa's website they explain that the .28 will not have further upgrades so they slapped 9038 pro chips and a couple of other goodies for a special edition that expires on 6-15-18. I do not think there were any additional options since all were included. I did a lot of googling and reading (a lot) and this is what I chose as an affordable but high quality combo that I can be happy with for standalone and in conjuction with the 339 and its lesser DV336SE. I am extremely happy with it and even though it is near the bottom of the choices for audio-gd, it is awesome. One very, very knowledgeable MD member had remarked that the 11.28 was a better quality choice than the Jot. and I am thankful that he offered his opinion. I have not listened to the Jot but it gets great reviews so all this and pouring over the audio-gd website and elsewhere led me to pull the trigger on the 11.38. Shipping was not too bad (less wt. than the 339) and using paypal which I had to pay the extra for (cudda just used visa i guess) it came delivered and very well packed(customs did open it) for 471.60. From order to delivery took about 10 -12 days but Kingwa boys test, test & test for 100 hours. When it leaves their hands, it's perfect. I highly recommend (whatdoiknow, lol) this dac/amp. Check out the power it puts out, and all the genus kingwa builds into this unit. A bit of broken English but the seriousness and his award winning talent are incorporated into all his designs. It's sorta maybe a corolla (with a v6) compared to his line of Lexus machines but some of those units are out of my price range.

EyeStrikeDo they declare the full cost of the amp for customs? if so did you have to pay any customs fee

MusicLoverI have owned the so-called "brighter" version for years, and this amp is not bright. It maintains a romantic timbre without sounding like dull warm mud. I'm not sure I'd want any warmer; this is just right.

maheeI think I read somewhere on the site that they use a nominal value to avoid such fees. The unit was very well protected and packaged but the outside did look a bit like it had been "re-wrapped" but I have no knowledge of how customs does their thing. There are instructions on audio-gd website about what value to declare if a return is necessary. Due to the rigorous testing the units undergo prior to shipping, it would be a total fluke if there were a performance issue not caused by a huge bashing during shipment. I think the shipping fee was 37.50. They have a chart that you can lookup the freight for each of their products. I paid a small fee for the paypal privilege and the freight; total was 471.60. In business since at least '04, i'm very impressed with the company and my 11.38. When I get my La Figaro and the Sen6xx(shipped last night) I will be a tearing up, manly man in audio heaven. Sen6xx perhaps the best deal ever on MD (imho) and the La Figaro rounds out the top two for me and I've never listened to 'em but I've got the faith.

MusicLoverI primarily use HD600. HE-500 were fantastic when I owned them. I would not recommend AKGs or Focals, as their impedance curve is too low for this amp. Cheers!

MarcSpenceAnother reason to avoid easy-to-drive cans is to avoid hum, atleast with stock tubes
There is a continuous audible hum in headphones(Porta pro for example) with stock tubes. But with HE560, no audible hum
