Hi all,
TL,DR: Amazing price at the lowest drop-point, the Fine nib and EF nib are very close to one another in terms of size, but there are fewer QC issues (from Lamy) with the Fine nib. If you're looking for one with a nib that's Fine or larger, this is a great deal.

Now, if you still want to read this:
I saw this new, lowest "drop" price and had to come out of hiding to comment. The last time I saw a price this low for this pen was a little over a year ago. As best I can figure, you're not going to find this price anywhere else. I've checked and rechecked - $104ppd in CONUS is a great price.
Now that I've trumpeted the deal Massdrop was able to score, I have to add my ongoing experience from when I purchased my pen. I purchased a pen with a coveted EF nib. Bad call on my part. Lamy says that all of the nibs for this pen write smoooooth. Not so.
Even after finding the smaller sweet spot, I was unable to get a consistent experience. After allowing for a reasonable "break-in" time, I decided to contact LamyUSA. After my postage (and $10 to them to cover their shipping cost), my pen was returned with the previous nib "replaced". The new nib was slightly mis-aligned. Now, I'm in a bit of a dispute with LamyUSA. I'll either spend another $15 to get a new nib (again) or throw up my hands, spend about $50 and send my imperfect pen to a nibmeister.
Along the way, I've learned a few things. I was waffling between the EF and the Fine nib. I should have gone with the Fine nib. The size difference is noticeable but slight. However, the vast majority of the QC issues I read about (myself included) have occurred with the EF nib.
In the end, my L2K with the EF nib from Massdrop will probably cost me more than had I just gone through a solid online retailer with a clear return/exchange policy.
If you have your heart set on an L2K with an EF nib, I would recommend spending the extra few bucks and going with elsewhere. If you are interested in an L2K with a nib larger than EF, this is an amazing deal at the lowest drop point. Jump on it.
As usual, I hope this helps anyone considering joining the drop.
Cheers.

GonzoTGreatThank you for sharing your experience. I recently read this blog post from GouletPens about the Lamy 2000 QC issue. Do you think if you were just experiencing the "sweep spot" issue related to individuals' writing habits? Link here: http://blog.gouletpens.com/2015/12/discussing-lamy-2000-quality-control.html

kkgwHi @kkgw,
I am an avid viewer of GPC's videos and know exactly what you're talking about.
To answer your question simply ... no.
To elaborate:
Initially, I thought that might be the problem. That's why I used the pen for a few more months, tried different grips, etc. Even after I definitely found the elusive sweet spot, I still had the issues. LamyUSA was very amenable to working with me when I explained my situation (the first time). They've only been difficult now that I'm trying to get them to honor their initial agreement. That said, my situation is probably pretty rare. In most instances, as suggested in the video, the issue is with the user and the challenge of finding the sweet spot.
I would have no problem purchasing an L2K with a Fine nib in this drop. The sweet spot is easier to find and there is more room for very slight error on the manufacturing side. The point doesn't have to be quite as precise. Surprisingly, many of the writing samples I've seen comparing the EF and the F nibs have show writing that's very close in size. To be honest, I'm tempted to join this drop if I can sell my current pen for $80. Unfortunately, my current L2K would need nib work done on it to write properly, so finding a buyer for an "almost working" L2K might be tricky at any price - even $80. Much less than that and it makes more sense to send it to a nibmeister. Either way, I don't have the scratch to float a new pen while waiting to sell the old one or even spend $30-$40 on an (inexpensive) nibmeister. Alas.
The situation is a little frustrating because, aside from the nib issue, I really like the pen. In fact, it (was) the nicest pen in my collection. Now, my nicest pen is toss-up between a Lamy Vista and a Jinhao x450 with a GPC nib and replaced converter (final cost on each was about $25).
Hope that clarifies the issue.
Cheers.

GonzoTGreatThanks for your post. I've had kind of a similar experience.
I got the Medium nib the last time this drop ran, only to find out that it put down a much thicker line than I would have preferred. I was considering contacting LamyUSA, but don't they require an order # or some other sort of proof that you purchased from them to get any sort of nib replacement, or am I mistaken there?
Anyways, my choices now are to either try and sell the pen (which wouldn't be hard, but rather just an inconvenience) and purchase another one in a F, or simply send the M to a nibmeister and get it ground down to the width I want. I'm tempted to just go with the latter option b/c even though it might end up costing a bit more money, it's more of a guarantee that I will be satisfied with the final state of the nib and I wouldn't have to deal with any future quality control issues. It's a real bummer that MD can't do replacements, but understandable.

DoroFingersDoroFingers, I'm not sure how else to contact you other than leaving a message here.
Since the EF and F are similar, would you be interested in trading your M for my EF? I bought my Lamy 2000 from Massdrop but isn't getting much use as the EF is finer than what I usually use. Let me know if you are interested in trading the nib. You can contact me through FPN (dylim1) or FPGeeks Forum under the same name (dylim1). Thanks.
*Massdrop, sorry if this is not the correct way to contact another person since there's no message function elsewhere.
