ATTN MODERATORS: I just received my Lamy Imporium, and when I went to clean it before filling (ie, running some water thru the nib and converter), dark blue ink - and plenty of it - came out. I own a gazillion pens and NEVER have I opened a brand new pen and had ink come out while cleaning. This pen had not just been dip-tested - it had been converter-filled. NOT GOOD.

heartsleeve310All LAMY pens are tested at the factory with their standard Blue ink before shipment. This helps LAMY maintain good QC, and though they usually clean them thoroughly after testing, sometimes there is blue ink residue that can be found on the nib when you get it. Not to worry though, this is a totally normal and expected feature of LAMY pens.

LizThanks. They must do this with higher end pens... never noticed it with Vistas or Safaris.

heartsleeve310My "Petrol" safari had blue ink remnants, so maybe they do it for at least some Safaris too.

heartsleeve310Lamy has machines which auto-test all their pens. You can see it at 3:19 on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seL0J8oQMEc
