Released in 2006 and no longer in production, the special-edition LAMY Safari French Blue is a great entry into the world of fountain pens. It features a lightweight resin body with a much-loved shape that allows it to rest comfortably in the hand during long writing sessions Read More
Are these real? The nibs don't match any of the ebay items I could find (which had the black nib) and it is a bit odd to have a 12 year old special edition start popping up here at a steep markup for the MSRP but at a lower price than NOS seems to go for.
McJimmisWell, I'm not a collector, so I have no idea what color the original nib was :) If it was black and I was a collector, yeah, I definitely would :)
Looks like this was a special edition, checking Ebay the price of this makes logical sense. I wouldn't want to spend over a hundred dollars on a Safari.
$109 for a Safari? This is why I haven’t checked in fir so long and my first time back I see this?
Guys, you used to source good deals - that was the point. WTF happened?
Once again, I ask, where are these being sourced from? "Released in 2006 and no longer in production"? There's a complete lack of transparency here.
Also, since I read that sentence again: "the special-edition LAMY Safari French Blue is a great entry into the world of fountain pens"
You're joking right? No, a great entry pen is NOT going to be one that's the price of a higher end fountain pen. A regular Safari is a quarter of this price.
the price variation does not matter to me as a matter of principle; imho it is the responsibility of the buyer to comparison-shop and in the age of google it's usually not that hard. potential misrepresentation of product (or as it's sometimes called, "fraud"), however, is another story.
i find it troublesome that obscure (i.e. of which most buyers would be unaware) 2015 stock might be being passed off as the more commonly–known 2006 stock. if that is the case, it would be either appalling negligence or fraud. (just in case anyone will say "yeah but they're effectively the same!", well… maybe… but otoh they're both effectively the same as a much cheaper current-year Safari pen apart from color, so it's not a very pertinent argument imho. if something has a higher market price primarily or solely because it's ostensibly from 2006, then arguing that it's "basically the same" as a more obscure item from 2015 is not a sound argument, either legally or morally.)
for the record, i have no interest in this pen either way; i'm just doing this as an exercise and because I feel compelled to point out yet another possible case of Massdrop's negligence. there have certainly been quite a few.
at any rate, people should know that this might not be quite as old "New Old Stock" as the listing text claims…
