That's waaay too expensive. I made a stand from leftovers: 2 pieces of aluminum profile for LED strip, heat gun glue, carbon pattern vinyl film. Still there's a space for improvement though.
EcchiWhaleI'd use some thin plastic tubes as insets. Current design uses heatshrink tubes and I used ammo shells as a filler while pouring hot glue to prevent tubes warp or shrinkage below required diameter - this was very time consuming. Various thickness of the plastic inset tubes will allow putting pens of different diameter strictly vertically.
The stand is stable due to mass and length, but if you lean it it will fall, so some safety boot may be needed or maybe putting it against the wall.
I'm also planning to create new stand from large caliber ammo shells. Also had some thoughts on using test tubes.
ToxicI'll have to use something other than shells, living in Australia means I can't get them very easily.
So you use hot glue to suspend the heat shrink tubes? That kinda works. Although I dunno if I can get the vinyl thing to work, I might just use a taller profile with the diffuser attached or something... Or glue two profiles together and worry about the vinyl later.
EcchiWhaleI mean, I used shells temporarily while glue was hot. Shells were meant to create hollow spaces in glue for the pens, and shrinkwrap was used to separate shell from the glue so I can pull them out when glue is solidified. Using shrink wrap wasn't good idea at all, but I didn't have anything else suitable immediately available so I had to improvise. If you want to follow same design you can just use wooden cylinder of required diameter and some silicone lubricant instead of shrink wrap. I just used what was available in my flat, and ammo shells(used ones) were bought on a shooting range previously for my stand v2 :)
