Can anybody confirm that it has a low temperature alarm? I mean: sound an alarm when the temperature goes *below* a set temperature? It's hard to come by but necessary for yogurt making. Like other thermometers, they focus hype on high temperature alarm for meat cooking. I will see how it works, I have the app but can't do anything with it since it can't pair with a thermometer. Waiting...

I bought this in the last drop, but it hardly ever works, the app consistently fails to connect to the thermometer, and the one time i did actually get it to work, it disconnected mid cook baking a piece of salmon instead of alarming me when it got to the set internal temperature.

Cool drop, but not much of a deal...same exact model is available on Amazon for $39.99 and ships to me within 2 days. Or I could purchase here and wait for the Dec. 11th ship date?? If this were priced less than on Amazon I would buy here...

By chance is there a bluetooth api to interact with this thing? As in can it be used without the app if I wanted to read it into a raspberry pi?
I mean all the cool kids are doing it and I adore my Javelin Pro so this would be awesome.

Would the vendor mind telling us what sort of battery the unit uses?
jmauroThe Carbon LITE uses 2x CR2032 batteries!

That app looks over-engineered. What's a "temperature profile"? A single number plus a stock photo of the appropriate meat?

awkTypically they are referring to a min and max temp you can set within the app, so it will alarm if it gets too hot or falls below. This is particularly handy if you are using it with a propane or charcoal BBQ.
awkTemperature profiles refer to various temperatures you set for whatever you're making. For example the Beef Profile contains the temperatures from rare all the way to well-done. You can create your own profile and enter your own temperatures!
Every company I've purchased a product from that tells me to hang tight while they code an app has either never come up with that app or went out of business before they finished it.
Out of curiosity, is this whole device (including the square LED/bluetooth dongle) supposed to stay in the oven, or is the cable long enough to reach to the center of an average stove?
Edit: n/m. I missed the cable length in the specs when I first looked (4ft). All I saw the first time was the "probe length."
TipsyMacScotchslurpenWe're diligently working on an Android app and we can expect its release to be in the matter of weeks! We're conducting final testing and hopefully we can have it out as soon as possible!
LavatoolsVery cool. I look forward to seeing that.

Is the cable heatproof as well? what is the temp range for the materials?

Ryan_AlanThe ambient temp range will be the temp range for the materials that are in the oven. Lavatools is a fairly reputable company, and temperature probes like this are a fairly common design. I have a similar one for BBQing, but I'm considering this drop for use in my oven. I like that the single probe gives both the temperature in the meat, and confirms that the oven is reaching the desired temperature.
Ryan_AlanThe cable is highly heat resistant and will withstand the temperatures within the product specification, which is 572F on the upper bound with no issues. However, we don't recommend dangling the cables into the coals or flames their temperatures can far exceed what can be tolerated.
