Have been a long time user of the Hennessy system, which I love, but am forever on the lookout for a hammock set up that also performs as a useful ground shelter (and ideally a self supporting mosquito shelter in hotel rooms etc when in the tropics). I have used the Hennessy in these ways, but it's tended to be haphazard and a last resort solution at best. This looks like it would function much better as a ground shelter because of the included support hoops and flatter footprint.
The Lawson however, veers away from the usual open/airy fly design with a much more closed in tent like fly. Wondering how breathable this is in rainy weather - is condensation a major problem (and especially bad in ground shelter mode, when you don't even get the air gap at the rope ends) Bivvy bag/ hooped bivvy experience from long ago suggests this could be a bit of a sauna in humid conditions?

AotearoanGreat questions. The arch poles create a little gap between the netting and fly which does help some with breathability. The main airflow comes from the two ends which typically creates enough ventilation that there isn't a condensation issue. As you mentioned, when used on the ground with the included rainfly, it won't breathe as well as when used as a hammock unless you tie off the end of the fly or use a stick, etc. to create some gaps on the ends. In cooler weather conditions this rainfly setup is actually advantageous as you can set it up to help retain more body heat. While most really like and use the included rainfly, using a tarp/fly suspended over the hammock is always an option. Hope that helps!

lawsonhammockThanks for your reply - does the rainfly have any kind of door/access built in, or are you just supposed to pull it up to get in the hammock? can't really tell from the pictures.

AotearoanYou just lift it up. Had a zipper a long time ago, but the feedback was that no one used it and it wasn't necessary so we eliminated it.
