The following is my onion and no one else's......I've had one for over 20 years and it's basically a tent in the air. When I got in it and closed it up I was totally enclosed. That's one complaint about it because I like to lay in a hammock and have the ability to look around. If you also like that then you could use a separate rain fly ( tarp ) to replace the one that comes with the hammock. The other complaint is that with the spreader bars if you try to sit on the side of it you will end up on the ground. I'm a ultralight backpacker and basically it's just to heavy and big for me to backpack with.
It's extremely comfortable and offers a lot of room for a camper. It's great for canoe , or car camping. Back when I got mine about a year later I had a question and contacted them , they responded promptly and definitely work with a customer.
At the price Massdrop has it's a steal.
JhawinsHeck yes , doesn't every one have an onion about something and put opinions on their hamburgers ??? Ooop's , I think I might have that reversed or backwards.
purchased my Lawson hammock last year and it is one of the best camping purchases I have ever made. I would like to see the underquilt come out on its own DROP
ScottAll weights are calculated differently, but this one includes the netting, rainfly, poles and stuff sack. You can also remove more than a pound by taking off the spreader bars if size/weight is critical.
Hi, my blue ridge hammock came in yesterday, to my pleasant surprise, 2 weeks ahead of schedule. I noticed that the description says nothing about tent stakes, and my hammock didn't come with any. It's not a big deal because I already have plenty, was it supposed to come with stakes?
Marauder26What are yo going to stick the steaks in ????? The hammock , rain fly , everything is self contained in the air , nothing is touching the ground unless you fall out of it.
oldsparkeywell took it once to three sisters in Oregon, and didn't need to use the stakes. But the Lawson can be a tent on the ground or hang in the trees
I'm a stomach sleeper and have never been truly comfortable in a hammock (even lying at an angle), so I've been really interested in trying a spreader bar hammock. However, 68 oz seems a bit on the heavy side. I think this outweighs most of the tents I own by far (including poles).
Any plans for a lighter version of this? The ability to use it as a 1p tent on the ground or hammock is really attractive, but I don't want to sacrifice so much pack weight for versatility. I could probably just add an ultralight hammock to the tent in my pack and end up with the same weight.
frekinThanks for the message. No immediate plans. There are plenty of ways to lighten the load. One way to fairly easily take off over a pound of weight is to remove the spreader bars. The hammock will still lay much flatter than others but will be lighter and pack down smaller. Hope that helps!
Have been a long time user of the Hennessy system, which I love, but am forever on the lookout for a hammock set up that also performs as a useful ground shelter (and ideally a self supporting mosquito shelter in hotel rooms etc when in the tropics). I have used the Hennessy in these ways, but it's tended to be haphazard and a last resort solution at best. This looks like it would function much better as a ground shelter because of the included support hoops and flatter footprint.
The Lawson however, veers away from the usual open/airy fly design with a much more closed in tent like fly. Wondering how breathable this is in rainy weather - is condensation a major problem (and especially bad in ground shelter mode, when you don't even get the air gap at the rope ends) Bivvy bag/ hooped bivvy experience from long ago suggests this could be a bit of a sauna in humid conditions?
Thanks for your reply - does the rainfly have any kind of door/access built in, or are you just supposed to pull it up to get in the hammock? can't really tell from the pictures.
