Not to mention this model is about 4 years old now. Doesn't seem like a great deal.

This is the same camera as the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 which is at most $600

This camera is a collaboration with Panasonic and is virtually identical....like 99% the same..... as the FZ1000. I own the Panasonic. It is a very capable "bridge camera".....it bridges the gap between a point and shoot and a DSLR.

censtadIt's really a Panasonic with the Leica name slapped on. If that's worth $400 bucks to you, go for it. I suggest that you buy the Panasonic from a reputable camera shop, online or in person, and have a US warranty you can depend on (I'm not sure what the limited 3-year Leica warranty is: an international warranty or a US warranty, and I'm just being sceptical because every camera I've looked at on MD has been grey market (I have not looked at all of them) . Panasonic makes some great cameras, some are good enough to be rebranded and upsold as Leicas..., all it costs Leica is a little pride and the return is valuable units sold, or rather, relatively very inexpensive units (for them) sold in moderately large numbers to people who want the Leica paint-job cachet and don't mind driving an over-priced (but darned good) Panasonic under the hood. You can but a much better camera for $1,000, however. (Edited to reflect the correct warranty information, as much as I can interpret it, which is with a grain of salt).

"Lens Type: Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 1–146 mm f/2–4.0/9 ASPH" Again, clearly written by someone who doesn't know photography gear. My guess is that they read "DC Vario-Elmarit 1:2.8-4.0/9.1-146 ASPH" and transcribed it incorrectly. A 1mm lens does not make sense for a 1" sensor. It's a 9.1-146mm lens. It's also clearly labeled as f/2.8 on the wide end, not f/2.

SitwonGood clarification. And a 9.1-146mm lens is equivalent to 25-400mm for a 35mm camera i.e. a pretty good zoom...
