Adding/Including Memories
I lost my dad last year (2023) and have been finding ways to include keepsakes/memories in my workstation. I've dabbled here and there with doing small woodworking projects and attempted a wrist rest from a piece of oak I picked up with him from my great uncles wood shop. I milled it to fit a 60% keyboard as I hadn't decided what keyboard I would be using it on and thought that's where most of my wrist would be in contact even typing on a full keyboard. I gave it a torched/burn appearance as I really was lost in what to do. I found an old shell casing from going hunting with my dad in my hunting pack and decided to imbed it into the end of the wrist rest so it would just have a little difference and a small story behind it as well. I have other things around my workstation from family and friends, but it just feels a little more special having worked on it and adding something small that has a memory for me to it. (Purple was my grandmothers favorite color and I have kinda now...

> 1080p
Nooooooooooo
And for non dx9 games that means lots of downsampling on top of whatever mediocre AA they offer in game(most post AA and most TAA is garbage quality and requires additional SSAA on top to improve quality or mitigate all the artifacts TAA introduces into the image), again will quickly drain performance.
So who needs 1080p? People who care about image quality, that's who.
And to the other guy: you don't need to go so wild on AA when you're at higher resolutions anyway. Jaggies are less noticeable when the pixels are so small. Upgrading to 1440p was absolutely incredible for me over 1080p, I can never go back. All I want now is a higher refresh rate. 4K for the future, but my rig isn't there yet.
I'm waiting on a 144hz gsync 2k monitor at a decent price point that is an IPS panel. I've used tons of TN and tested buddies VA panels and they are just ugly compared (if you don't use a quality IPS all the time you won't notice the difference and wouldn't be a big deal). VAs tend to ghost even with 144 hz gsync 1ms.
Now 4k is another ballgame. No way to get decent frames without turning down alot of settings and no AA on demanding titles. I'm talking 120 plus fps.
1. G-sync 2. 144hz 3. 1440p 4. IPS
(Of course, the ultimate would be a monitor that does g-sync *and* FreeSync for max compat, but no mfr out there seems interested in producing one despite the huge win it would be for the market. I’m starting to suspect that nvidia has some kind of “thou shalt not include competing technology” clause in their g-sync license)
maybe IPS is a “nice to have“ for some, but maybe what I should be aiming for is microLED or OLED. After all, I’ve gotta keep my wishlist as infeasible and unreasonable as possible (lest I actually spend money on something). Hehe :-)
