Adding/Including Memories
I lost my dad last year (2023) and have been finding ways to include keepsakes/memories in my workstation. I've dabbled here and there with doing small woodworking projects and attempted a wrist rest from a piece of oak I picked up with him from my great uncles wood shop. I milled it to fit a 60% keyboard as I hadn't decided what keyboard I would be using it on and thought that's where most of my wrist would be in contact even typing on a full keyboard. I gave it a torched/burn appearance as I really was lost in what to do. I found an old shell casing from going hunting with my dad in my hunting pack and decided to imbed it into the end of the wrist rest so it would just have a little difference and a small story behind it as well. I have other things around my workstation from family and friends, but it just feels a little more special having worked on it and adding something small that has a memory for me to it. (Purple was my grandmothers favorite color and I have kinda now...

If you're going to upgrade to a GTX 1080 or 1080 Ti then by all means, get the 1440p and upgrade the video card. You can get a decent 1440p 144hz for about 500-600.
My point is there is always something bigger and better that you can wait on until the price drops enough for you to want to buy it and then the next big thing comes out and you no longer want the item you were waiting on.
I think you are misunderstanding the OP's question. This person said, should I wait for a "good deal" on a 1440p 144hz. That doesn't necessarily mean he expects it to be the same price as the 1080p 144hz, it might mean a good deal as in paying less than what it normally retails for. In this case, that price being in the 500-600 range. The real question, if you were paying attention, is as to whether he should future proof his monitor given his intention of buying the next generation video cards from Nvidia(Volta) when they come out later this year.
Please get 1440p, once you do you can't go back. I would take my decent 100Hz 1440p Korean monitor over ANY 1080p monitor on the market.
I personally am waiting to get that BenQ 32" 1440 monitor. That one looks solid. If you are using Windows 10, then you might as well wait for a 4k monitor (these have tiny text in Windows 7, and I HATE Win7 screen scaling).
If you go for a 27 inch look at a 2k monitor not 4k unless your just doing graphic design stuff. It's to hard to push 4k and will remain that way at least another 2 gpu generations. 4k can be wxceptable just expect to turn settings down if you go that way. And if you go 4k and try and run it at 2k rez it just doesn't look good.
