Beware- this is not real Leather.. it’s faux pas, meaning it’s rexine. Secondly it’s size is big, quite big for a laptop.. more like for keeping a file with bunch of paper or Mac book pro 17”.. which is why it’s quite heavy also due to the artificial material.. and definitely not worth the price tag.
manassampatThe Levenger website says "bomber jacket briefolio," "full-grain pebbled mocha leather" and "handsome leather portfolio."
The term "full-grain leather" is a technical term that means that the top surface of the hide is used. This is a higher quality than "top-grain leather" and "genuine leather."
On the other hand, if you are going to pebble the leather, top-grain or geniune would be more common, since full-grain is usually appreciated for its natural pattern and defects.
Also, the monogramming shown on the Levenger page shows depressed letters almost like the subsurface of the leather melted down under heat. Maybe this kind of monogramming is possible with full-grain leather simply by applying an enormous amount of pressure. I don't know. Actually, I'm looking at my leather Kindle case right now from Journal Standard, and it has the company logo is a similar look to the Levenger folio monogramming.
My verdict: a tentative vote for real leather. The company would have to be lying, and it's one thing to lie and say that genuine leather is top-grain leather, but quite another to say that plastic is leather.
liam_chaThe best way to test real leather is smell and using your nail to see is it leaves mark in the leather skin. This fails both. Texture and color is copied easily. Real leather also leaves color with time and this one looks new without the need to polish it.
manassampatsounds like we got different products lmao. I got it in black and it do get the leather smell although it is not strong i have to stick my nose onto the surace.
manassampatDyed leather would have not as strong leather as others is not strange due to the process. Actually some of the lower level dye would have a strong, unhappy smell that even completely overwhelm the smell of leather. And by my experience with leathercraft, I would say this leather is decent in all the aspects. Ieather is not perfume, you should not expect it keep a strong smell after the dying process. And as a bonus, I don't think levenger gonna use the faker leather, they are not nobody come from no where, using PU leather is pretty much suicide for them
liam_chaMine does not smell at all, I just tried again.. absolutely no hint of the smell! LOL> definitely we have different product maybe. Then again its about the Brand screwing it up. Does yours pass the nail test??
