GVU1This monitor should work with Windows 7. I would make sure that your graphics card on your PC can support the highest resolution that this screen offers ( 2560 x 1080 ). Other than that, you should be good to go.
GVU1Intel GMA 3100 Graphics 750 GB hard drive 8 GB memory Super multi DVD Burner
Windows Vista Home Premium changed to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Wireless LAN 802
GVU1Thank you for all of that info. I apologize for taking a while because I was doing some research on your PC. The Intel GMA 3100 will not be able to take full advantage of the monitor.
The GMA 3100 supports 2048x1536. Even if it displays at that screen resolution, you would risk your computer slowing down. If you really like the monitor, you would also have to purchase a cheap graphics card that will display a resolution of 2560 x 1080 and is power efficient. That would probably set you back at least $100, but it would be to be on the safe side.

MathMatis Given your computer and what you have to work with, I would check out a monitor like this one for example: http://www.microcenter.com/product/482108/se2717hr_27_ips_led_monitor If you like LG, this one is also an option: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIADM25S38725
Those monitors all you would have to do is plug and play. Yes the resolution is 1920x1080 but it would put less strain on your computer.
The LG monitor on this drop page would be perfect with a brand new computer for sure. Honestly, it would not be worth it to upgrade your computer given its age. It could be more hassle than it's worth.

GVU1You are very welcome. I had a computer from the same era as yours. I upgraded it a few times until I came to realize that it was getting too slow to keep up with my needs. It all comes down to where you believe your money would be best spent.
MathMatisThank you again for your advice. I do like LG but what I was interested in, even more, is a good price on a monitor with touch and split screen capability that my computer will handle since the Windows 7 down load made my computer, supposedly, capable of those two attributes.Tthe higher the screen resolution the better .of course . I liked that the LG screen came with Speakers as part of the whole device
MathMatisIt is hard for me to make a recommendation because I do not have experience with touch screens specifically. I feel that the Dell screen comes very close to the touch screens you will find on a brand new Laptop.
I could not find one that is higher than 1920x1080. All three monitors will work with your PC.
MathMatisYou are a great guy MathMatis. I can not thank you enough for your help . I really can not afford a new computer but this will make mine somewhat new to me and my son I am on FB if you would friend me .Thank you ;Respectfully, George V. Ulrich Of Browning , Montana
