ZK85If you want a G-sync monitor Amazon and Newegg sell plenty of them. The reason they don't sell any of them on Massdrop is simply because each G-sync monitor has to have the proprietary NVIDIA module installed into the display itself. These modules add quite a bit to the cost of the monitor, thus there isn't much headroom for Massdrop to offer a discount.
Freesync, on the other hand, is an open, royalty free, standard with no extra hardware in the monitor required.

rhenomI am sorry but that is nonsense... massdrop offers discount based on the bulk price of an order... you order bulk you get a discount. That is why they need a specific number of people to order for a drop to get to a specific price.
Gsync monitors are like any other product, they are sold at a discount in bulk or stores wouldnt sell them cuz there is no profit in selling items for the same price u buy them at.
You do know that massdrop doesnt install gsync or freesync in the monitors right? Its a specific model built by the manufacturer.

ZK85Apparently you misunderstood the point I was trying to make so let's back up for a second. Massdrop will sell anything if they think people will buy it, but there's one very big requirement for anything to appear on this website; the makers of any given product have to AGREE to have their items sold at a discount. Clearly not many G-sync monitor makers have come to terms with Massdrop or we would have seen more G-sync monitors on here.
Any time they sell their product at less than the MSRP they are taking a direct hit to their profit margin. In my previous post I speculated (because obviously I don't work at Massdrop or a G-sync monitor manufacturer) that G-sync monitor makers are less willing to sell at a discount because of the added cost and royalty that having a G-sync module brings.
But don't take my word for it, feel free to find a Massdrop employee to comment.
You also make some leaps of logic, first You say there is room for discount because of wholesale markups in retail locations and yet, what exact retail outlets carry G-sync monitors? Good luck walking into a Walmart or Best Buy and finding one (just because you may be able to find it on their respective websites doesn't mean that they carry it in store).
I'm well aware that Massdrop doesn't install G-sync modules (there is no such thing as a freesync module). I don't see how that's relevant to the point I made.

rhenomIt is also possible that Nvidia does not allow gsync monitor to be sold below a certain price precluding the ability to run the item on Massdrop all together.

rhenomI hate to bust your argument, because you're right, but the best buy I work at sells gsync monitors. That being said, they are sold at cost and vendors pay us to sell them so we don't make margin on the actual monitor, but the cost of our shelf space.

rhenomI am sorry but you are still wrong, products here are not offered at a discount by the manufacturer to place it on massdrop (at least not in most cases) but massdrop passing on the savings they make to us.
Its genius really, if they had to list it online or sell it in a store the normal way they would need a huge storage area and a lot more staff than what they have, they would also need the money upfront to buy the inventory they need. Instead they get paid before they make the purchase by us the customers to purchase with a whole sale discount as any store would... except they are making tons of savings and insuring they dont have stock left over in most cases. That is how massdrop works, there is close to no incentive for any company to list their products on massdrop for a discount. anyone who worked retail or owned a shop can tell u this easily.
and last but not least, what the heck are you on about gsync not being in stores? :P dude its not like we have to file with the pentagon, get it stamped by the president and then purchase them from NASA. lol they are everywhere!
Here are links to gsync monitors both on walmart's and bestbuys's sites and I have seen them in store as well. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?st=gsync&_dyncharset=UTF-8&id=pcat17071&type=page&sc=us&cp=1&nrp=&sp=&qp=&list=n&af=true&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960&keys=keys

ZK85Your original post seemed like you were exasperated that Massdrop hasn't offered any G-sync monitors. Given the number of freesync monitors offered on this website I have to think that Massdrop employees see the benefit of variable refresh rate monitors. So it stands to reason that they presumably have TRIED to get G-sync monitors on here, but either for cost reasons or not being able to come to terms with vendors it hasn't happened.
If you have another theory on why they never drop G-sync monitors I would love to hear it.

rhenomI do actually have three theories, and this comes from personal experience and seeing it happening in our stores.
1. The price of wholesale is better from LG than Asus and ACER for lower quantities (most of the freesync monitors sold here are LG) and massdrop underestimates the amount of buying power behind gsync since the majority of PC gamers do in fact, according to real world statistics, use Nvidia .
2. Very simply the person behind purchasing either A: does not like Nvidia (personal bias happens sometimes) or B: Is simply not that well informed as he/she should be in the field of monitors, or gaming monitors to be exact (again something that happens often).
3. They made some sort of agreement to sell only freesync for a better cut or other bonuses.
