I have this monitor, and use it as my external display for my mid 2010 15" MBP. It works amazingly well over a MiniDisplayport to Displayport cable.
For comments about it "only" being 1080 vertical resolution, unless you're doing some high resolution photo editing, you will be just fine with this monitor.
As a coder, this is my main work monitor, and I could give a shit about it having a really high pixel density.
The main draw for this monitor is the form factor and the aspect ratio, which I'm absolutely sold on.
When used with a window management app like Moom, this monitor is amazing.
I typically break the screen up into 3 vertical columns, with my terminal on the left third, and an editor in the 2 remaining thirds. Depending on what I'm doing though, it's nice to be able to bounce around to half & half, or 3 side-by-side windows.

ryanisnanThat is strange, coders usually like high pixel density which allows to display more code at the same time on the screen. Some even splurge on 4k screens for that purpose alone.

ryanisnanAs an IT schlub who does not do "high resolution photo editing" I wouldn't be "just fine" with this monitor. Pixel density isn't all about getting the prettiest PNG on the screen, it's about how many remote desktop windows can I get on my screen without having to shuffle windows or having to use the annoying scroll bar. It's about being able to see more than one log file or memory dump on the screen with more than ten lines showing at a time. 1080 sucks my productivity down the tubes. My laptop has a WQHD screen (3200x1800) and I wouldn't trade it for the world. If I was setting up a workstation at home with a multi-mon set up, I might consider 2+ of these for portrait mode, but not for a single screen.

AnzialI agree on high res for developers wanting more code at the same time. I'm hoping we can get the LG 31mu97 on here
