I can taste a refresh of these panels coming this winter. It's about time for an update I think.
549.00 right now if you have a Costco card.

Thanks
Holy crap i was actually looking to buy thus monitor. Thanks massdrop and ppl who made thus happen.
Are there any manufacturers that make a 48” 2k-4K monitor? I really want to set up a sim pit with 2x27” 2k monitors + 1 48” monitor in a PLP configuration.
Morphenox
Some Korean generic monitors do come in that size, gonna have to hunt them down on ebay.
I think HP or LG made a 5k monitor and I heard 8k is in the works.. But games and the media have yet to catch up with even 4k lol
Will this monitor work with Macbook pro at 60hz over usbc? I do not care about the charging issue.

The usbc ports one the MacBook Pro are thunderbolt 3
JBean117
They will only function as TB3 if you purchase a specific TB3 cable as opposed to a USB type C cable.
Honestly, I joined the drop and then backed out after checking Massdrop's return policy. I don't think I'd ever buy a monitor without having a fully covered return option, especially not for only 10% off… If the discount was more significant (20%+), I would probably be willing to deal with it… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I would buy it if it shipped to Canada. :(
lmcquaid
You'll have to look elsewhere. MD ain't the place to buy a monitor from for international members any more.
Wheres the line between monitor and tv...?
Schmexy
TN panel, TV Tuner, “Motion Enhancements”, significant input lag, HDMI inputs only, 1 input at a time, no RGB color calibration, etc = TV
Size has nothing to do with it. :)
levifig
Also most monitors are'nt HDCP 2.2 compatible, which means you can't stream 4k video through netflix, amazon (and I think playstation)
How much for shipping it to Singapore? I am keen in buying.
60 Hz. Meh...

...4K only runs at 60hz currently....
GhostTiger
Good luck getting above 60FPS in most games at 4K even with a 1080Ti
You guys should know these monitors are not true 4k. A true 4K image (4096x2160) has an aspect ratio of 1.9:1, while a true UHD image (3840x2160) is 1.78:1. These monitors are not 4k.

I'll have to look into that monitor thanks.
Wolfman887
Yep, those extra 256 pixels make all the difference.
Yeah, MD still doesn't ship any monitors internationally. A single drop in months that had such an option among the scores of US-only monitor drops. How disappointing. What was it B.Hutch said? he aims to serve the community? Yeah, that shows in how no monitor drops are available internationally, MD is simply snubbing the nose at every international member.
I'd jump on this but I'm not in the US. Really sad
Shawnb
What's funny is that MD could've made a killing with this monitor even with expensive international shipping but it's painfully obvious they just don't want to deal with supporting monitor purchases outside US.
You can still order it from the likes of B&H who do offer international shipping, might wanna wait for a sale or a coupon there though for a cheaper price. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1325220-REG/lg_43ud79_b_uhd_monitor_43_4k.html
Almost there, LG. An IPS this big for monitor use? I hope this form factor picks up momentum.
So with multiple device support does this monitor basically have a KVM inside? IE I can use one keyboard and mouse for the 2 computers I'd like to hookup?
Load 1 more comment
I would recommend Synergy over a KVM with a monitor like this… Synergy allows you to position screens relative to each other (across multiple computers) and you can literally move the mouse from on to the next, instead of having to press a button/key combo. :)
levifig
I kind of hate that. I like switching from one machine to another clearly with a KVM. I have done some seriously stupid stuff moving across computers, so now I refuse to go near that kind of thing.
Oh. US shipping only. Again. Of course. I wonder why massdrop is even available outside US, 90% of drops are US only.
I bought this monitor from Adorama a couple months ago. One thing to keep in mind about this monitor is when you are playing a game, the images moving on the screen can seem a little bit blurry. For example, in Diablo 3, when an item drops to the ground and you are moving, the letters will be very blurry so you won't really be able to read it clearly until you stop moving. the same thing happens with my 60hz 27in 4K monitor but you do not notice it as much because the screen is smaller. Aside from that, I do like the monitor because it is considerably bigger than my previous monitor and is FAR better than just using a 4K tv (I tried that with Samsung tvs and it was even more blurry when scrolling on a website). Of course a smaller monitor with higher refresh rate would eliminate this blur. Just something to keep in mind.
WARNING: 2016 MacBook Pro users!!!
I did quite a bit of research on this display before purchasing, but some details were not clear to me before the display arrived. One of the main reasons I bought this display was the advertised convenience of using a single USB-C cable to send video signal to the monitor while simultaneously charging my MBP. However, THIS FUNCTIONALITY DOES NOT WORK FOR THE 15" 2016 MACBOOK PRO.
When connected via a single USB-C cable, the charging icon is displayed over the battery in the MBP's status bar as if it is charging...but clicking the battery icon for more details reveals a "Battery not charging" message. When I discovered this, I began searching to see if anyone else had encountered the same issue. I wasn't able to find any similar reports (early-adopter problems), but more importantly, there was no documentation on the power rating for the USB-C port on this display — not on LG's website or anywhere else. I found this odd considering the fact that the all-in-one USB-C functionality was advertised as a key feature of this product. Eventually, I found my answer on Apple.com while reading about the power delivery capabilities of the LG UltraFine 4k Display (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207447) — a different display, but THERE IT WAS:
"The UltraFine 4K won't fully power 15-inch MacBook Pro from 2016 and later, which requires 85W. If you try to power your 15-inch MacBook Pro through the display, your notebook's battery will be utilized during times of heavy activity. To fully power your MacBook Pro and charge its battery, connect your 15-inch MacBook Pro to its Apple 87W USB-C power adapter when you use it with the UltraFine 4K."
A call to LG support confirmed my findings: THIS DISPLAY CANNOT CHARGE THE 2016 15" MACBOOK PRO. In the end, a real bummer, but not necessarily a deal-breaker for me. I just wish there had been some sort of documentation on this before I made my purchase.

Side note 1: this display should have a USB-C to USB-C cable in the box. Mine was missing. If you don't receive one either, LG support should be able to send you the one you are owed.
Side note 2: the USB-C cable that came with your MBP does not support video, so you won't be able to use it with this monitor.

UPDATE: LG has added a note on the product page for the USB-C charging limitations of this display. It is at the end of the text beneath the "All-in-One Connection" section on this page: http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-43UD79

Yes, it says HIGH SPEED on it. It is short and fat... you can find them in Amazon. Also apparently LG owes us a cable, as mine did not come with one either,
What monitor are you using? It doesn't work on my 43inch...
There's a critical issue with that monitor: weird spatial low frequency backlight PWM flicker (even on 100% brightness). Some aren't sensitive to that, but for me the monitor is unusable. See picture. On the official site at this moment it's declared "flicker safe" in specs, but obviously it isn't. I don't know if they go and make rev.2 of this monitor with DC-controlled backlight, but that horrible PWM flicker in 2017 is a joke.

Ozzz
Thanks Ozzz! Almost pulled the trigger on this one. I see flicker where most others don't. This would have drove me nutz!
Re: Color space.
This is basically an sRGB monitor (8 bits per channel). sRGB is 72% of the NTSC space.
MassDrop would sell more product if they picked the right product.
I'm getting more and more disappointed with the sourcing operations here. I've checked out another group buy site and found several monitors that I'm happy with.
It seems, though, that their deal rates are relatively comparative to MassDrop. In other words, MassDrop's % off of products are just about the same as other group buying dealsites that I checked out. Maybe MassDrop is getting squeezed a bit on the profit side by the vendors. Who knows.
But I'm getting really pissed off at the product selection here.
MassDebates
MassDebates, please do share the other sites you mentioned with us! Thanks!

I was going to write a response mentioning groupon and the like, but then I decided to consult The Google to see if anyone wrote something significantly more substantial: https://www.quora.com/Which-is-the-best-eCommerce-model-Massdrop-community-buy-or-Amazon-Flipkart-single-customer-buy
*'Massdrop reminds me a lot of the original unique selling propositions behind group buying websites like Groupon, Living Social, Eversave, etc. "Get your group on" was the original slogan according to Andrew Mason (former CEO of Groupon). The whole idea was to allow users to group together, reach a tipping point, and then get a discount on the purchase. '* - Frank Fumarola, part of the exclusive Prime club
The specs on this thing is amazing. Contrast Ratio: Mega For real? is mega a measurable unit? As in, like, million? So are we getting 1000000:1 ratio? To be honest I think the Phillips 40" 4k monitor is better, which gets 100% NTSC colour range, compared to 72%.

Is it ghosting in gaming or regular use as well, such as movie viewing?
Silicone_Ducky
Ghosting is inherent in VA tech, so yeah, if you see it, you'll see anywhere.
Selling on Amazon right now for $599 with 2-day shipping. What a crappy drop.
samiam09
That's just a one-day sale, but yeah, this drop is pretty much a failure without international shipping.
samiam09
What date did this happen? why? 4th July or some similar holiday? Possibility of happening again?
At this size, it's arguably a TV.
UglyTomato
Well, lots of people use TVs as their computer monitors because they can't find good monitors of this size and resolution.
I've been using a screen like this for almost 2 years, its a generic brand with probably the same LG manufactured panel. This is a great product for upgrading from 2 smaller monitors. Old computers will have trouble driving it even if they support dp 1.3 (60hz but there is mouse lag and other lag). New computers skylake or newer with intel 530 or better graphics can drive this screen flawlessly but older video cards even gaming video cards more than a few years old are not designed for this. I had an amd 3xx card that could not drive this screen but then I upgraded to a skylake with intel 530 graphics. I was going to get a new graphics card but the intel 530 drives this screen so smoothly I decided to stick with it.
So IPS or LED? Weird item description.
Edlgm
They're two different things. It has LED backlighting and an IPS type panel.
Can get free shipping to Singapore ?
VinayMenon
No, this is only shipped within US.
Massdrop needs to improve the specs description on this item.
I got really excited when I saw "LG 43" 4K monitor." Then saw the specs: only 72% NTSC gamut? Bummer. I use 3 of LG's high gamut 10-bit 31" screens and keep waiting for something bigger so I can move my screens back with my midfield audio monitors. This isn't it. And the price isn't great. I'll continue to hold my breath.
mbriola
AFAIK, this one is only 8-bit panel, 10bit with FRC unlike the 31" version with true 10 bit panel.
Anzial
You're correct. So I keep waiting.
