I really dont understand the is Atmos thingy.. Because I called LG and they told me that you can only get Atmos if you have and Atmos ready TV .. Why o why do you need a Atmos ready TV.. Isnt the decoding done by the bar.. Does that mean you dont even get sound out up the top firing speakers.. So this is worthless unless you have a Atmos ready LG pretty much.. I just spent over $2000 for a LG OLed model OLED65B7A which is their lower OLED model and its not Atmos ready.. Anyone have any ideas..

JLGomezThe atmos effect on these will only work if u have either blu ray player connected who can pass thru Dolby atoms or a tv with Dolby atoms capability like LG tv's with atmos with hdmi arc connection to ur tv and to sound bar, so if u are planning to have no atmos source then there are other options of soundbar who will do a better job for sound and will cost less as well, but this is a steal if u do plan to get LG tv with atomos capability will work for u for the long run

qmk10so if I have a tivo bolt connected to the TV and it was an ATMOS TV with this soundbar I wouldnt get ATMOS because the Tivo bolt does not support Atmos or does the TV do the ATMOS decoding for it even though the Bolt has no clue what ATMOS is.. Thanks

JLGomezIn order for the tv to decode atmos effects it does need the source otherwise in ur case tv bolt since doesn't support atmos, then u won't get the atmos sound through ur tv directly or soundbar

qmk10Well thank god I didnt push the button on this earlier I wanted to buy it on Amazon.. So I take it then you need not only an ATMOS TV but also a ATMOS source.. And there aint any ATMOS Tivo boxes.. And hell there arnt many ATMOS anything and this bar is like version 1 of ATMOS.. I guess the only thing I would get a benefit from would be my XBox one X.. Definitely not worth the $500 bucks.. Thanks

JLGomezThis bar does work 100% with your LG B7A. You need to connect your TV to the bar on HDMI 2 with a high speed HDMI with Ethernet cable. It will pass through Dolby Atmos to the sound bar using the built in apps on the TV. Netflix, Vudu etc. I have this same setup so I know for sure it works.

Blink401Really.. Because according to LG this my TV OLED65B7A is not ATMOS capable at all.. I know it shoes Atmos in the setup screen but they say it dooesnt.. Do the speakers that fire up on the top of the bar actually sound aka Atmos or they are not working..

JLGomezYour tv can’t pass Atmos over hdmi through the arc channel to the sound bar. But plugging an Atmos ready blu ray player into the sound bar will Give you Atmos sound but will pass the video through to the tv.
Atmos ready tvs (e.g. the C7P) can pass Atmos from their other hdmi ports through the arc channel so you can use your TVs hdmi Ports instead of using the sound bar’s input.

JLGomezThe B7P/C7 and up have an atmos decoder built in and simulates Atmos through the TV speakers. The top speakers do fire with non atmos content.

Blink401So blink what your saying is that on the B7A you do get sound out of the speakers even the top ones but it doesnt come out ATMOS.. Correct

JLGomezThe top speakers work with all audio. And it will get an Atmos signal from the TV and play ATMOS. Most movies and tv shows are coded in some form of Dolby Digital, if what you are watching was made with 5.1 Dolby Digital then this soundbar will output the sound in 5.1 Dolby Digital. If the movie you're watching is DTS then it decodes and plays it in DTS. On the B7A, Netflix and Vudu has content that was created in Dolby Atmos, and if you play an Atmos movie in the built in apps on the B7A, the soundbar will decode and play it in Dolby Atmos. You might want to search the internet for movies and tv shows in those apps that output Dolby Atmos. It also plays Atmos through the Dolby app on the B7A. When LG says the B7A doesn't support Atmos, they mean the TV doesn't decode and play ATMOS via the tv's speakers. This sound bar works the same on the B7A, C7, E7 etc. Just connect the HDMI ARC IN on the B7A to the ARC Out on the soundbar.

Blink401No.. I called LG and they said that sound bar would not do ATMOS with my B7A only with the other models.. That it was not ATMOS compatible at all.. But say you have the B7A and when you play apps in ATMOS your getting ATMOS are you sure its ATMOS and not just regular surround.. And also you say when you play something in 5.1 surround the top firing speakers still work so pretty much your getting the front right and left channels of the surround coming out of both front speakers and top firing.. So you dont get any rear at all so its really 3.1 surround through 2 pair of front speakers.. thanks

JLGomezIt works 100% no question. The TV doesn't have to support Atmos, the apps do. As long as the app is streaming Atmos, the soundbar can decode it. Atmos is sent via bitstream just like other formats. When this soundbar is connected to the ARC channel the apps see the hardware and indicate that atmos is streaming, and it's confirmed on the display of the soundbar.

Blink401Thanks for your help I really do appreciate it.. But could you explain a little more where the rear surround audio would come out of for the rear that would normally come out of the rear speakers on 5.1 systems..

JLGomezThis soundbar is a true 5.1.2 unit. It has 7 speakers total plus a powered sub. The rear channel speakers fire from the sides of the soundbar, and the atmos speakers are on the top. The idea is that the surround channels bounce off the walls and ceiling creating the surround effect.

Blink401WOW.. Thanks for clearing that up I forgot that it had side speakers .. But now I can definitely say that it wouldnt work out for me.. Because where the speaker would go I have a door entrance to the immediate right of it so that means the right side speaker wouldnt have anything to bounce of .. You have been so helpful you saved me from a terrible purchase in my case.. thanks
JLGomezEdited my comment as various online sources cite differing opinions on how many channels of amplification this thing has... some say 5 some say 7... my suggestion would be to buy from somewhere with a return policy and find out for yourself :)

JLGomezOLED65B7A will support this soundbar with Atmos. This is the exact set-up I have now. The soundbar is good overall, but isn't worth it if you already have a real 5.1 surround sound system. I have found the SJ9 to lack true imersive audio.

JLGomezI have the TV and Sound bar hooked up through ARC, all of my inputs are going to my TV, with the single ARC connection going to the soundbar. When streaming Netflix from the OLED65B7A, Vision and Atmos both become an option for content that offers it. When you start watching a movie on Netflix that states it supports Atmos, the sound bar's LED changes to Atmos. I haven't been overly impressed by it though, but it is working. I have also learned that my Sony 4K Blu Ray doesn't support Atmos. So I'm pretty much stuck with just Netflix for content at the moment.

Jefe_Santiagowell the idiots at LG tell me it doesnt work with that model which is the same as mine.. morons..so u dont suggest it even at a good price better with just a basic 5.1 surround right.. let me ask a question for the hell of it if your putting that sound bar in front of you and towards the right of the sound bar there is a door isnt that going to create problems with the side speakers correct..

JLGomezI have the Sound Bar directly in front me, and I do have a door to the right of me as well. But it's normally closed. I get a minor feeling of surround sound, but I am strongly considering hooking my 5.1 back up. This model doesn't support adding surrounding back speakers, if it did, I would be thrilled. I bought the LG wireless back channel speakers, not realizing that this sound bar doesn't support it. The only thing I am currently happy about is this sound bar is how simple it is to set up. Probably will end up giving it to my son.
