Buy a Sawyer. It's not a marketed piece of crap. This lifestraw is good for 2000 gallons. The Sawyer is good for far more. This is a marketed item to separate fools and their money.

Thanks for the tip.
$13.90 on special deal at Amazon right now
Can you drink your own pee through this? For science
these are on sale for $13.99ea on amazon right now as a cyber week deal
3$ shipping kills this deal
I love this, it comes on every adventure. Sometimes I only pack this if there are lots of water sources along the trail. Just remember to blow it out and leave the caps off so it can dry out between adventures.
@massdrop if you can get this to $13, it's a deal worth getting. At $15.99 + shipping it's not, because we can get it for less (incl shipping ~ $16-17) many other places online.
After shipping + tax, it's cheaper on Amazon in a 2-pack bundle:

How do I find out how much is shipping to Australia? Need to know this before committing to the drop.

Click "Join Drop" and select your location. $7.25 to Oz.
Yes, there are much better options for the trail (although this is a good backup), but these are GREAT for an auto emergency kit or glove box, a bug-out bag, etc. I bought several at once on Amazon for less shipping.

Sawyer Squeeze, Sawyer Mini or Katadyn BeFree.

hydroblu versa flow
Before these were on Massdrop,  I got mine on amazon for 17 bucks, and its worth it, it does exactly what its supposed to , and the water tastes great.
$24.95 MSRP is a bit misleading since you can buy these almost anywhere that sells them for $19.95. Free in-store pick-up and free Prime shipping kinda negate savings. Hope this is a deal for someone out there.
is the filter replaceable?
oferi
No, the product is "disposable", a lifestraw is not much more than just a filter anyway.
Does it filter out chlorine?
There is no chemical filtering (absorption) in a Lifestraw, it filters out particulates ranging in size from dirt to large viruses.
Those interested in this: look into the grayl ultralight.
Shipping is killing this deal. Especially when you want to order multiple straws.
$15 would be a deal, but $3 shipping makes it not. For $1.78 more I could have as many as I want today from Amazon.
It doesn't matter how much shipping is or what you receive. Are you gonna suck water out and spit pot? No. Sawyer is the best filtration systems offered.
Carhauler
The sawyer squeeze is easily the best water filtration system in my experience, my only complaint is the bags are not durable enough. I've had 3 now fail on the trail and then the whole system is effectively useless.
litegalm
I agree the Sawyer bags suck. There are adapters on Amazon that you can purchase, to fit other bags. I personally use 2 life water bottles.
How much is shipping?
i got these at 12usd at Amazon last year, they´re 19.75 now, but still cheaper for me when MD shipping is included. https://www.amazon.com/LifeStraw-LSPHF017-Personal-Water-Filter/dp/B006QF3TW4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1486652526&sr=8-2&keywords=lifestraw
Jeroen_h
Ebay has them for cheaper after shipping.
Jeroen_h
Also the Sawyer mini is cheaper, smaller and can filter out like ten times the amount of water.

Just to repeat, for anyone considering getting a lifestraw- don't. It's a gimmicky piece of garbage. Filters 250 gallons of water, compared to a sawyer filter which filters 100,000 gallons, has twice as fine a filter, and actually allows you to produce potable water, as opposed to the lifestraw where you sucking through it is the filtration, meaning you're only making water to drink as you need it, not water for your pet, not water to cook, to give to those who need it, to store for later.

Off the top of my head, certainly not, though there may be some. However, lasting 250 gallons versus 100,000 gallons and no ability to actually produce clean water?

That's because there isn't really. The things that can slip past 0.2 can also slip past 0.1, which is primarily viruses although there are some odd shaped bacteria with dimensions that theoretically could go through the 0.1 but in practicality they either don't or they get destroyed in the process. Years ago the filter models moved back up to 0.2 in favor of faster flow other than a few purifiers that remained, and MSR discontinued their add-on downstream filter for their pumps. It wasn't until Sawyer started up their bullshit marketing and 0.1 that it started to become a "thing" again, and then the market exploded with all these little straw filters and such. There's some consideration to be taken into account for membrane media vs. depth media but for all practical purposes there really is no advantage to 0.1 over 0.2 for drinking water filtering, in terms of pathology. It's less of an issue with single layer membranes, but 0.1 can be a disadvantage when it comes to clogging and that comes at the expense of extra filtration that is unnecessary...so it's a good thing that they are fairly easy to back flush and clean, but even then most people will never ever realize the ridiculous volume/lifespan claims that Sawyer perpetuates. You look at every other manufacturer and they are all vastly lower in their lifespan statements. There's a good reason for that. Life Straw is what it is, but it is not gimmicky garbage with a less effective filtration media. Like I said, I'm not a fan of it or similar products myself, but I have owned one (still have it) and it fills a little niche in the market for many users. Certainly not a good choice for campers and backpackers, but one could. If it isn't your cup of tea, that's cool, but to tell people to not buy it along with info that isn't really accurate...nah. Some people really like these - day hikers, mountain bikers, preppers, people vacationing in other countries that want to filter a glass of tap or restaurant water, etc., etc.
