jeaninesYou too? I am an inactive public/school librarian and I am drooling also. True card catalogs are in great demand. Anything which deals with the traditional tools, accoutrements associated with a library. I am going to make this my Christmas present. Not to mention, I love cards and use fountain pens and wax seals.

aissatou_sunjataYesss, we are kindred spirits! Several years back, my love for the library was rekindled and I started a blog series where I wrote about the different branches of the oakland public library. When I finally got to visit the Library of Congress, I went through the process of getting registered there so that I could use their reading room and have the library card as a souvenir! And of course, yes to fountain pens and wax seals :)

jeaninesI love fountain pens feathered friends (I have a parakeet/budgie) pen-pal ing and journaling. You are so fortunate indeed. The Library of Congress is one of the libraries on my dream list. Some time ago, there was something on the internet about the most beautiful libraries in the world. I think on my bucket list of places to explore someday, I hope to visit some of them. Library card as a souvenir, wonderful. I have found years ago, since there was no need any longer for cards in the card catalog because everything has gone electronic or digital, people found interesting ways others have found to recycle cards of the card catalog. I saw a sculpture made of some of them. Very interesting. Yet, as a former active Librarian and having had to take cataloging while in school, those cards were meticulously done by someone and that hard and diligent work seems to have been forgotten in the quest to do something with all of those cards from card catalogs. Friday is National Fountain Pen Day. Enjoy.

jeaninesWait, when you join the Library of Congress, they give you a card catalogue as a souvenir? Is it one drawer? Or a 3x3 set?
If you don't mind me asking , how much was the membership?
I miss the smell of card catalogs and would love to get my hands on another one. Thus far, I've only seen pretty abused metal version that are rusting ;(
