kinglukas38King Lukas:
That $300 price is for the standard LD MK IV, not the SE version.
MD's price would be better than Amazon's but worse than LD's even with the shipping difference factored in ($49 from ebay, $11.06 from MD) --
*if* the SE and standard models were one and the same, which they are not.
"The Little Dot MK IV SE is a special edition version of the Little Dot MK IV which features a Neutrik headphone jack upgrade, premium RCA connectors (American CMC or Van Den Hul RCA), and premium circuit component upgrades in key signal path locations. The SE version also replaces the normal MK IV vacuum tubes with M8100/CV4010 driver tubes and 6H30PI (Gold-Pin) power tubes."
"The appearance of both versions is virtually identical with only the following differences: "SE version has label "Little Dot MK IV SE" instead of "Little Dot MK IV" on the front panel. "SE version has Neutrik-branded headphone jack "SE version has American CMC or Van Den Hul branded RCA jacks "SE version ships with different driver and power vacuum tubes
DABTPA: What is the price difference between the Little Dot MK IV and the Little Dot MK IV SE on eBay?
LD seem not to be offering an SE model on eBay currently.
I'm seeing the SE model for about $455 (not including $60 shipping!) from other eBay sellers.

VarholiaglimpGo to www.littledot.net which is buying directly from them. The regular one is $289 + $55 shipping and the SE is $389 + $55 shipping. I think the real advantage is the upgraded tubes. For those of you that can't afford the SE right now, make sure you contact David at Little Dot to see what tubes he is using for the upgrade. Write it down so you have it for later.

VarholiaglimpRight below my initials (DABTPA) you say "You seem not to be offering an SE model on eBay currently". I have nothing to do with eBay or this company. I am just an audiophile who follows Massdrop and happens to have owned 2 Little Dot Amps.

kinglukas38The drop I bought from was $299.99 with free shipping. This is a very nice amp, but I do not understand why the price is now so high.

kmccormickThere is a base edition form LD for $289 and a Special Edition for $389. This is the SE and add $55 for shipping and it gets you close to this cost. The reason people aren't buying is that there is no real savings vs Amazon or eBay (which is a Little Dot direct site). My guess is you got the standard edition. I'm not sure if there was even an SE a year ago.

DABTPAThis SE dropped this past July for $299 with free shipping. I got on it in the last go around.

DABTPADABTPA:
Since the person who represents LD is named David, I mistakenly interpreted the first letter in your username to be the initial for his first name in and the username itself to be an initialism (which it still might be); when you mentioned distribution and gave your email address to those who wanted more information, I assumed you did that because you represented the company. Unfortunately, I read those parts of the post without marking this bit islanded in asterisks:
"No retail distribution. However, ****based on the Little dot 1+ and Mark 3 I have owned****, this should be better than fine. If you want more info, email me at dabjhs72@msn.com"
What's clear now is that you're a customer who is very satisfied with the LD amps you've owned and have generously offered to help people (via e-mail) on your own time.
As I said, my mistake.

kmccormickFirst, congratulations on getting in on that deal.
Second, my question is not whether the SE offered here costs $131.05 more than you paid (if enough people commit at $419). It's whether the SE version can be bought at Massdrop's current price (or less) anywhere else.
If it can, then people might want to skip this drop. If it can't, then those who didn't get in on that deal might have to adjust their expectations accordingly.

VarholiaglimpThanks. Easy mistake to make. I am at home, disabled and audio is a huge part of my life so I try to bring "value added" where I can, especially when it is directly related to something I have owned. I, unfortunately, have allot of time to spend on the computer.

VarholiaglimpI have no idea what venders Massdrop got these from this time or the drop last summer. I just know $299.99 is what I paid for mine from Massdrop last summer. Looks like price direct from manufacture only $12.95 more than lowest price offered on this drop vs. $144.01 last summer. Seems really strange.

kmccormickYes, the price increase does seem strange.
My open question about comparative pricing is not one that I expect you in particular to answer. It's a question that I'd hope anyone who was interested in this drop would ask themselves.

DABTPADABTA: I appreciate your honesty and understand your situation. We all spend too much time on our interconnected devices, so it's not just you. I'm reminded of it whenever I pause between hours or days to stand in front of the picture window. If you write fiction in your spare time, message me privately (if we have a way to do that). I might be able to offer you an incentive for a second consuming hobby.

VarholiaglimpInterestingly, I have a journalism degree but spent my career in consumer product sales (P&G, Coca-Cola, Ralston Purina and Nestle'). I used to sell audio so I am very aware of the market and pricing. I will leave my email but Massdrop flags it as spam. However, they left it up the last time so maybe it is designed to warn the sender, not hinder communication like eBay. I am dabjhs72@msn.com
