The stock CV4010/M8100 preamp tubes with the Little Dot MK IV SE are nice but not the last word in resolution and imaging; try replacing them with Soviet 6J1p-EB tubes from the VOSKHOD factory (Voskhod tubes have a rocket logo). These can be had CHEAPLY on eBay (less than $2 each!) and have a pure gold/platinum alloy grid wire. They need 50-100 hours of break-in before they make magic; they sound cold and thin until they have had break-in time... These 6J1p-EB tubes are good for 5000 hours service, & sound better than the CV4010/M8100 tubes which are slightly fuzzy and un-focussed in comparison. Look for 6J1p-EB tubes made in 1985 or Earlier. Even the legendary Western Electric 403A version of the CV4010/5654/EF91 for the MK IV SE cannot compare to Voskhod 6J1p-EB. I didn't believe it either until I just decided that for $8 per pair w/shipping for a selected pair of 6J1p-EB from Russia I couldn't lose! They are the best by far of the 7-8 versions of the EF91/CV4010/5654W input tubes I tried. (I have the earlier Little Dot MK III but made the internal modifications to raise it to MK IV SE specifications)
