I bought my LD MkII via a previous drop - noticed quite a lot of background hiss, even with the volume turned to zero. I probably should have returned it, but living in the UK I'd already paid a small fortune in shipping and import duty to get the amp so I decided to stick with it. I upgraded the tubes to Mullard M8100 and Electro-Harmonix 6H30Pi - almost doubling the cost of the amp, but sadly that background hiss is still there. It seems from reading reviews elsewhere that I got a duff one as the majority of people are very happy with them. I guess this is the downside to cheaply produced electronics - the quality control just isn't there.

instantsquidAny chance that hiss being a ground loop issue? Try unplugging all the RCA cables; plug in only the power cord & headphone. Then isolate your amp away from any electronic devices including computer, laptop, router, antenna, etc. If the hiss goes away, then it's not an issue with the amp itself. Then you can trace the cause backward. If the hiss remain, try another power cord instead of the one came with the unit.

instantsquidI had a slight hum via the rca to 3.5mm jack, but once i hit play it went away. I however still replaced the rca/3.5mm cable to a different pair by IXCC which cost me only 7bucks on Amazon and its dead quiet even when not playing or disconnected. I do also keep my LD MK2 away from all other gears. I just replaced the driver tubes (front smaller ones) for the Jan 5654w and wow, what a difference it made running my Fostex MK3. The stock tube drivers would not drive my fostex mk3. The rear tubes are still stock equipment.
