A question about amps in general: so my USB DAC (Yulong U100) already has more than enough volume output for my headphones (250 ohm DT-880s), would i still benefit from adding an amp? And yes, my DAC has a line out
Edit: As far as i know the DAC doesn't have a built-in amp.

AleWiThe U100 is a DAC/amp combo. A dedicated DAC with no built-in amp would not have a headphone jack and volume control.

mfletchMakes sense, after actually paying attention while reading reviews the built-in amp seems to be very good.

AleWiIt's not only aquestion of enough volume, tubeamps sounds different than a regular amps, if the regular amp is doing is job it will be transparent and will just increase the volume levels without any issues or distortion , a tube amp will modify the sound towards a more warm sound etc, a different sound, not necessarily better, ant not necessarily worse. for example the hd600 will go nicely with tube amp, theres just a good mach together. you can enjoy a different sound with the same headphones which is a nice thing. if you already have a regular amp, a tube will be a nice sidegrade, not an upgrade is my opinion (when both in the same price levels more or less ).
