Will this ever drop again?
My PAW5000's front plate is separating from the body.. I've babied this player and never dropped it or knock it into anything. - Sucks because it's one of my favorite players. Still works well, just poor build quality and the buttons constantly sink into the body because the plate rises. We need another drop or for Lotoo to answer their emails. :[

how is this any better than the price amazon has?
Looks like an iriver or something from 2005 which is awesome 😁
lmfao@that MSRP. are y'all just making up these numbers nowadays? give me a fuckin break
ohshitgorillas
yeah, the price on this thing is the exact same as amazon's. I don't see the necessity of this drop in the least
Looking on Lotoo's web site, there's no reference to the PAW 5K anywhere in the product section. That seems odd for a player that has been out on the market for several months. Also, can anyone from Massdrop comment on availability of the next English firmware update? The FW numbering scheme appears to be different across the various languages, with new Korean and Japanese versions being available as of 2/3, but no corresponding English version.
According to "http://www.lotoo.cn/page/default_en.asp?pageID=68" Only only two authorized sellers are ALO audio and Extreme Audio
This has to be one of the ugliest DAPs ever made. I guess some people dig the retro looks of a clunker cell phone from the 90s.
<7% discount vs Amazon. Nah.

people should definitely do their research before backing this drop though

wait a minute, you think everyone here stays in the states and you can order anything from amazon to try it out and send it back without cost? good. it is costing you your jobs :)
still couldn't afford it now, isn't it?
MSRP $619.99.... sure...
KITTY
$299. can't be more expense.

based on my ears, this little beast can just about do anything. it can not only playback most conventional audio file formats, but is capable of native DSD 2.8Mhz playback flawlessly. The phone out brings you just the clearest sound you can ever hear (using my triple fi. 10 pros), and balanced output brings you to a whole new world.
One drawback is the user interface, in that it has the classic (now awkward) user experience of the physical click wheel just like the iPod classic, or the FiiO X3s, with additional buttons to toggle back and forth through the menu, rather than the now-ubiquitous touch screen interface. BUT, that being said, this users can overcome with continuous daily usage. Another is that there is no internal memory, and there is only a single micro SD card slot. And depending on user preference, it does sound very monitor-like (which is expected from a maker that specializes in industrial audio).
All that for $289.99 is a fucking steal tbh.
Anyone here have an opinion on how this compares to a Fiio X3 II?
Does balanced actually work on these or is it the same output as regular headphone out?
I can't find a reference for this MSRP. Amazon lists the MSRP as $399. Not sure if this is a different model.

I think that the MSRP is inflated here. MSRP is £299 in the UK (~$450). Massdrop recently got caught on this with an unauthorized drop of the Chord MoJo, too. They had MSRP of $899, which is way off the $600ish MSRP. Moral of the story, don't trust Massdrop MSRP.
Hi. I got mine a few days back , and so far, am really liking it... but!> ive just got a 'fatal error' - the screen says fatal error, and its pretty much frozen... I have been looking online for a 'reset' but so far , cant find one. Has anyone had this issue?, and if so, how did you fix it?
Seems the claim that it handles all major file formats, including ALAC, is a lie. No matter what the bit/sample rate it absolutely chokes on ALAC files. Since 98% of my library is ALAC i'm so screwed by this. It does sound wonderful with all other formats but I'm not converting my library just for this. No, not happy at all.
dezitall1959
ALAC conversion is pretty simple, just set a program going overnight and wake up with new files. Unless you've got like 30k files, it isn't so bad. If you are using this player, you'll probably want to organize into A-F, E-... et cetera, anyway, so you can batch up section of the alphabet. I've reviewed this on headfi, and quite like it. http://www.head-fi.org/products/lotoo-paw-5000/reviews/14728

Checking back in with the latest info. Our vendor's shipment is currently en route from Japan and is expected to arrive at their location on Friday. Their warehouse team is aware of this schedule, and their goal is to have all individual orders turned around on the same day as arrival. Depending on what time the delivery is made, fulfillment may slip into Monday.
Expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 12/1 or sooner if something comes up.

Whoever missed the drop, you can get the exact same player for the unlock price on Amazon in the US.
Here's the official Lotoo PAW 5000 User Guide in a PDF format. It provides much useful information, including how to format Micro SD cards and how to transfer from a computer to the PAW 5000: http://www.hifiheadphones.co.uk/media/wysiwyg/Downloads/Lotoo%20PAW%205000%20User%20Guide.pdf
Here is a unboxing and quick review of the above player, it's has a very good price feature ratio, I am very tempted to get one since this can be used for the gym with the included armband.
MusicIsGreat
Thanks so much for the video. I was ready to join...right up until the part about no Album or Artist sorting. How is that possible? The player allows for 2TB memory card, but requires scrolling by song? In a $300 player?! Am I missing something here. Bummer regardless.
LxJLthr
Apparently a review I just watched said that you can select music by year, album, etc. I do not know how accurate this is because the person did not show a how to on the selection of music files and artists. But perhaps there is something they can do in the firmware if not.
looks like the internal dac can be bypassed via the Spdif optical out but not the USB 3.0
Joeybgood
Ah, so it is optical, not coax. Thanx. The decription notes spdif but oddly the specs list makes no note of it.
Does anyone know if you can build playlists for this device and if so, is it somewhat easy to do or a process like most hi-fi players?

Alucard
you can make 3 playlists.
Alucard
You can manage 3 dynamic playlists very easily by adding any song/folder(+subfolder) when browsing your music library. But the Paw 5k does not support m3u playlists.
It appears there are 2 microUSB ports. I'm guessing one is for charging and the other(the USB3.0?) can be utilized to pair with an external/portable amp/dac and bypass the unit's?
