I have heard and compared many a dap. Owned quite a few. Would I spend this much on a DAP... No, but that is only due to limits imposed by my income. Having owned the ak100, ak100ii, ak120, HM901, HM801, DX90, DX100, x3ii, Plenue P1, Alien etc. They are all fantastic players in their respective price ranges. However the Paw Gold to me is beyond slipping into a price range/performance ratio. Yes it is expensive, but it is simply the best sounding dap I have heard.
All the above are great portable players, but they are just that portable. The Paw Gold is something that to me sounds hifi. Eg. I would have no reservations running it via LO into a high end speaker setup as my home setup. It really is that good.
Personally I cannot afford it so I settled for a Chord Mojo, which to me, gets me a good way to the best audio I can afford.
You dont like/want/believe in this product, you are more than welcome to voice those opinions, just know that you are wrong ;) :P Joking of course.

wyd4How would you rate it compared to the Sony ZX2? I've auditioned extensively before settling on that, and firmly believe it's easily equivalent to the AK240, but never had a chance to listen to this yet. One caveat for me is I have almost no DSD music, my collection is FLAC only, except less than a dozen DSD files, so that has never been a strong criteria.
Also, for those here who are more cost conscious, the new DAPs from Pioneer and Onkyo seem pretty interesting too:

I believe they're both not released in the States yet, but should be a matter of time
