I did not see a option for another battery size so I assume the 550 lumens is for the aa battery, is this correct? At high setting, 550 lumens, does the output step down after 3 minutes or will it run at high for the full 45 minutes? Ant feedback would be appreciated.

barry9http://www.lumintop.com/tool-aa-c-edition.html No step down, you just need the Lithium AA (14500) version with the higher output (3.7v vs 1.2-1.5v on AA) to get the full runtime of 550L. I would like to get a couple of these, I'm big on rechargeable AA from here on out and not opposed to the Lithiums too but I'm no fan of the colors. Lol... Standard black, silver or even brass for me. I like the tail cap options that can be switched out as needed.

barry9Rechargeable 3.7 volt 14500 lithium batteries happen to be so close in size to AA they fit inside the same flashlights. With some flashlights I'd expect the 14500 to burn out the bulb, with some it works even if unintentionally, and apparently with this one, it recognizes the differences and produces vastly more light. I like this type of flashlight, because if one has a 14500 battery and charger, the flashlight is super bright and one isn't constantly throwing away alkaline AA's (or having the AA's leak and ruin the light). And if a charger is not handy or access to main AC power for charging is unavailable, just about any convenience store in the world sells AA batteries.

SoxFanAnd therein lies the point, a flashlight that can use Li and alkaline for both convenience and higher output. Ya gotta love flexibility or at least some of us do. I have started the process (financed) Solar for my house and in time when I can afford it, I want a separate solar setup with generator for all of battery charging needs vs using my house/solar grid since that will be set up as a 97% offset and produce just under what I use in a year (las Vegas area). Though with sunlight all year I know I will get 100% energy production and energy credits with the power company to not spend money during the hotter than the sun months. Lol. Plus a separate portable system will travel with me and be useful for so much more too. Well that got off topic quickly lol... love my flashlights and knives hehehe
