Paper specs look just great. But what about real-world measurment and testing? SNR? Jitter? Or is this just another chinese paper dragon?
I remember Cowon measured their P1 on Audio Precision SYS-2722 to prove the numbers(and numbers were better than of twice more expensive AK240). 120dB SNR on Cowon means no hiss on most sensitive IEMS.

Even the 2nd gen Fiio X3 appears to blow this product's specs out of the water, for $300 less! Not to mention the 2nd gen X5!

I'm always skeptical of people claiming that "the chips are superior" in one gadget over another. Did you arrive at this conclusion based on any real evidence (ie. a double blind listening test)?

zoomorphI'm Agree with you.
I think Use RMAA or AP devices and show the results of measures are far better way to PR
And Apple ipod touch5(famous for it's accuracy, linearity) is available about 350$ (64gb) Or Up coming ipod touch 6 with 128gb at 500$
Also available to use parametric equalizer app
It can make sound really good
By Accurate the headphone's response(or make colouring by own tastes)

Such snake oil. Nothing about the screen, poor resolution, and shoddy finish around the ports for 200 dollars yeah some people might buy it but this crap at 500+ no way.

This is quite a broad question, but what is the advantage of a DAP over, say, an Android phone and a portable DAC? Something like a DACport HD adds essentially zero extra bulk and supports the same file formats, while being completely reusable when you get a new phone.

Better option for rich people than flushing money down the toilet, I guess.
Of course the product makes absolutely no sense. High-resolution music = stuff you can barely hear in a silent environment with good heads, let alone on the go on a portable music player. Brings nothing of value to the table and asks an outrageous price.

A device like this is ideal for me as a one item fits all. I commute 3-4 hours every day and listen to music a large part of every day when working using ciems. I can use this as a storage for the music I listen to most as I cannot keep music on my work laptop, and I can also use it as a dac when streaming tidal or even YouTube (yes it's not great quality but if you knew how terrible the soundcard is in my laptop....) Thing is there are quite a few devices out there now that works for the bill, so need to ensure this is the actual one for me first.
For those who feel it's all snake oil or too expensive... Don't buy it :)

Until recently, I traveled three to five days a week, every week, for about 25 years. 90% of my listening to music was on the road. I had custom IEMs, very high quality, because they kept me from going deaf on those 20 hour flights to Asia, so they resolved VERY well. I also would travel with high end headphones for hotel rooms and airport lounges. Laptops don't sound as good as a standalone player or a laptop/DAC combo. Until recently, the best you could do for travel was 44/16 resolutions. I own some music in multiple resolutions, and everyone who's listened on my Fiio or rock boxed Sansa, or on my home stereo system, has been able to accurately identify highest, medium, and lowest resolution files on listening, with a couple of exceptions: my friend who went to probably 50 Ted Nugent concerts, along with concerts by Cactus, the Detroit Dogs, etc, and another friend who was in the artillery in Vietnam.
I'm happy to be able to listen to music now without headphones most of the time...

I know that there was some problems with the screen that was mentioned by some users on HeadFi and some Chinese users. Supposedly, there was some allegedly bad quality control on the screen and some other stuff on the player. Did they ever get that resolved?
Dammit lol i just bought the ak jr
