Paper specs look just great. But what about real-world measurment and testing? SNR? Jitter? Or is this just another chinese paper dragon?
I remember Cowon measured their P1 on Audio Precision SYS-2722 to prove the numbers(and numbers were better than of twice more expensive AK240). 120dB SNR on Cowon means no hiss on most sensitive IEMS.
Even the 2nd gen Fiio X3 appears to blow this product's specs out of the water, for $300 less! Not to mention the 2nd gen X5!

I'm always skeptical of people claiming that "the chips are superior" in one gadget over another. Did you arrive at this conclusion based on any real evidence (ie. a double blind listening test)?
zoomorph
I'm Agree with you.
I think Use RMAA or AP devices and show the results of measures are far better way to PR
And Apple ipod touch5(famous for it's accuracy, linearity) is available about 350$ (64gb) Or Up coming ipod touch 6 with 128gb at 500$
Also available to use parametric equalizer app
It can make sound really good
By Accurate the headphone's response(or make colouring by own tastes)
Such snake oil. Nothing about the screen, poor resolution, and shoddy finish around the ports for 200 dollars yeah some people might buy it but this crap at 500+ no way.
This is quite a broad question, but what is the advantage of a DAP over, say, an Android phone and a portable DAC? Something like a DACport HD adds essentially zero extra bulk and supports the same file formats, while being completely reusable when you get a new phone.
Better option for rich people than flushing money down the toilet, I guess.
Of course the product makes absolutely no sense. High-resolution music = stuff you can barely hear in a silent environment with good heads, let alone on the go on a portable music player. Brings nothing of value to the table and asks an outrageous price.

A device like this is ideal for me as a one item fits all. I commute 3-4 hours every day and listen to music a large part of every day when working using ciems. I can use this as a storage for the music I listen to most as I cannot keep music on my work laptop, and I can also use it as a dac when streaming tidal or even YouTube (yes it's not great quality but if you knew how terrible the soundcard is in my laptop....) Thing is there are quite a few devices out there now that works for the bill, so need to ensure this is the actual one for me first.
For those who feel it's all snake oil or too expensive... Don't buy it :)
Until recently, I traveled three to five days a week, every week, for about 25 years. 90% of my listening to music was on the road. I had custom IEMs, very high quality, because they kept me from going deaf on those 20 hour flights to Asia, so they resolved VERY well. I also would travel with high end headphones for hotel rooms and airport lounges. Laptops don't sound as good as a standalone player or a laptop/DAC combo. Until recently, the best you could do for travel was 44/16 resolutions. I own some music in multiple resolutions, and everyone who's listened on my Fiio or rock boxed Sansa, or on my home stereo system, has been able to accurately identify highest, medium, and lowest resolution files on listening, with a couple of exceptions: my friend who went to probably 50 Ted Nugent concerts, along with concerts by Cactus, the Detroit Dogs, etc, and another friend who was in the artillery in Vietnam.
I'm happy to be able to listen to music now without headphones most of the time...
I know that there was some problems with the screen that was mentioned by some users on HeadFi and some Chinese users. Supposedly, there was some allegedly bad quality control on the screen and some other stuff on the player. Did they ever get that resolved?
Dammit lol i just bought the ak jr

Is there something I'm missing here? In 2015, 16 and 32 GB capacities seem disappointing. A 160 GB iPod was available in 2007. Is this a technical limitation, or would adding storage be 'too expensive'? I understand that this is a far superior playback device, but I'll take 100 gigs of 320 MP3 over 32 gigs of lossless any day, particularly at $600.

Jamiroquai is highly compressed, the place where you would hear a difference there is on the bass, which is more the domain of your headphones than the dac. I recommend taking the Tidal challenge. I was able to identify the lossless track on every one except for a highly compressed k Killers track. Acoustic tracks and classical music really show the difference. I've listened to a lot of 320kps as I do use online streaming, but I also listen to a lot of flac of CD or higher quality. I've also done comparisons between 320kps and 24/192, and it isn't really a contest. My favourite to listen to is DSD played natively (DoP isn't as good).

Can you hit me with a link? Neither Google nor reddit yielded any results, and I couldn't find it on the Tidal website (assuming that is the same Tidal you're talking about.
any idea of the drop px for the 32g version?
Hi! Why not ship to Russia? I interesting to buy one.
Interested, but the complaints I hear about the UI (and capacitive screen) are kind of worrisome. I'm even less thrilled about the partial screen failures.
I'd only be interested if it carried a full manufacturer warranty. I know Massdrop will take care of it if there's a defect upon delivery, but what about after several months?
damn sexy and want it bad but I can't justify it right now.
I've actually been considering this. I'm concerned about some screen problems I have heard online. Some people report black dot appearing on the screen and the dead pixels slowly increasing over time.
Can you ask the supplier if this issue has been resolved yet?
Does any one know whether this expensive player works for full size headphones like HD600/800? I could not find anyone commented on full size flagship headphones in Head-fi thread. Strange.
I heard great things about this player. I'm just a little flustered cause I heard the UI is not so great....anybody have first hand experience if this is usable like a dx90?
at the present i'm using ihifi960 and looking forward to replace it or mod it, my choice for replacement is this DAP and opera Consonance Suzanne, can anyone kindly enough to point out where i can find a review head 2 head between Suzanne vs L5??? (a link would be great) thanks...
I heard that there is no option to shuffle all songs? I am curious on how the UI works. Does it work based on folder browsing or can you browse by artist, album, all songs, etc?
*chops my hands off before joining*, on the chinese sites, the L5 is rated at 3999RMB and LP5 is rated at 4999RMB, hmmm how much of a difference could there be

Thanks for the info, I actually do have one from ATH, I will give it a try
A used AK100 runs for $300. AK120 and AK100ii run about $600 a piece used.
I own a L5, they sound absolutely amazing. Check out this Head-Fi thread if you wants to look for any review/comparison http://www.head-fi.org/t/760848/luxury-precision-l5-32bit-dsd-portable-lossless-music-player-with-akm-ak4490-touch-screen-cnc-aluminum-alloy-body
Looks awesome, but I would really want to see a real Video Demo of the complete UI and all of the settings, display, and functions in action. Does the seller provide this on their web site or somewhere else? Please post a Link if so, or any Link with more info about this player. I wish it had a removable battery as well, but still interested. Thanks! - B.B.
This looks like an A&K, so hot. But not priced for a drug lord or mafia king pin.
