Hi folks,
Powerbanks are something I've become interested in lately, so occassionally I'll surf my favorite "good deal" online merchants to see if there are any bargains. I don't know if this Amazon link (see bottom of post) is a bargain in its own right, but it seems to be better than what's being offered here if you live in CONUS.
It's still relatively early in the drop. Perhaps Massdrop can negotiate a lower drop price while this is still an active drop?
[Edit #1: I just realized the link below is to a different powerbank - they just look the same. I have no idea if the Macally products are any better or worse than much of what else is out there.]
[Edit #2: After reading some earlier posts, there seems to be some dispute about the relative value of this drop. I suppose it all depends on what is available in your neck of the world. I have a small Anker. When/if I upgrade, I'll probably stick with them. YMMV]
Hope this helps.
Cheers

I use Anker also and haven't had a problem with them. Plus they have a great response time to customer inquires or issues.

GonzoTGreatI actually own the power bank you linked!
I really like it except it doesn't support passthrough charging. So I can't plug it in and then plug things into it to charge the battery while charging the devices. Other than that I love it. I can charge my phone 4-5 times off of it and it keeps its charge really well if I forget to charge it for a while.
This drop just seems exceedingly expensive and I'm not really sure why. You can get similar or better battery banks on Amazon for equal or less money.

AyynoYes, if you search amazon for "anker usb battery", you can find lots of good alternatives. In fact, the Anker equivalent to this drop is $26, with prime (bigger form factor, though). If you're willing to go with a smaller 10000mAh, the price is even better: the Anker E3 is $23 (about the size of an iPhone 6/6s, but twice as thick).

BrainFlushHi @BrainFlush,
TLDR: Thanks for the up vote. I add the "fine print" because it's true. I have lots of endorsements. I want people to know I don't write or comment on behalf of anyone other than myself. Thanks again. - G.
LONG VERSION:
Thanks for the endorsement. I think.
If you'll humor me, I'll explain my "BS line: Fine print:"
When I make a post about a specific drop, I often spend a fair bit of time researching relevant information. Sometimes that's on Massdrop, sometimes elsewhere. Like many here, most of my posts get 0 responses. Occasionally, I'll write a post that is amusing or helpful and it will get some attention.
I'm fascinated by the concept of Massdrop and enjoy window shopping, so I've posted a fair amount. My well-received posts have ranged from praising to panning whatever I'm addressing. I try to make my comments constructive.
I hope endorsements are given when a post is particularly amusing or helpful. As I'm not a mind reader, I can't say why I have a high endorsement count, specifically. But it seems that I do.
Everyone likes to be appreciated, so I'm grateful for my high number.
Because my "endorsement" number is high, and I believe in transparency and truth-in-advertising, I will often post a short "fine print" comment at the end. I'm not employed by Massdrop and have no formal relationship with them. Periodically, I'll ask a question through one of their online links for the same reason as others, I believe. AFAIK, I have no "inside information" about anything that I post. I do research and I have opinions. Occasionally, I'm either dead wrong, unclear about a point I'm making, or my post offended someone. When that's the case, I'll either write an additional post or correct the original one - or both. If those corrections are anything beyond cleaning up typos or improving grammar and/or clarity, I try to point that out.
So thanks for the endorsement and I hope this explains why I put that short "fine print" addition on some of my notes.
I've rambled enough.
Cheers.

PinheadHi @Pinhead,
I think you and @Ayyno are absolutely correct. I have one of those handy "Price Drop" extensions for Amazon. A couple months ago, I picked up the Anker PowerCore power bank (~10,000+mAh) for $15 out the door (with Prime). It's usually priced at around $20.
After a couple months of daily usage, I'm very happy with it. As for "pass-through" charging, I don't think many power banks support it, unfortunately. If you're unsure, contact the manufacturer. I called Anker customer support. My specific question was about a different charger, but I think that's the case for most. Alas.
Cheers.

GonzoTGreatJust completed ~500 miles of bicycling with the linked powerbank, through bits of rain, lots of jostling, 3 flights and zero issues. Looks identical to this one, performed flawlessly, can totally recommend it.
