WhenInWomeAgreed, @6EQUJ5 and @WhenInWome :)
@Wakko The first design was because we could and it was fun. People seemed to like them and they are a great conversation starter. An added benefit is it's a fun way to learn how to program and make animations.
jdmoungeWhat are the fitment/size specs for theses? What are the measurements from temple to temple?
temple = the parts of the shades that fold out and rest on your ears.
Thanks.
Dmitry_SI don't have access to a slick mechanical diagram that I should, but I can provide you with this picture :p Inside measurement is 5" and outside is 5.75". Length of leg from front to tip is 6" linear.
jdmoungeThank you. The picture and measurements were very helpful.
Based on the picture, the frame specs are roughly as follows:
Eye size: 1.75 Inches or 44.45 MM
Bridge size: 1 inch or 25.4 MM
Temple size: 6 inches or 152.4 MM
Inner size from temple to temple: 5 inches or 127 MM
Vertical size: TBD
jdmoungeFor the non-LED, it comes with a 400 milAmp battery that lasts 3-8 hours (per description).
Do you know of any after-market batteries that run 800 to 1000 milAmp and would be compatible?
dr_decibelWe are not aware of any higher-capacity batteries that would fit in the battery holder. It could be hacked with a larger battery if you removed the battery holder and taped on the larger battery.
cnsodomHey! It may be possible to flip the front panel 180 degrees so the LEDs face inward, but the cable that runs to the front panel would have to be cut and spliced to make it a lot longer.
matheesWe have instructions for assembling and programming them here: http://docs.macetech.com/doku.php/rgb_shades
They are pretty easy to assemble and do not require any fancy tools. They are also already programmed to work out of the box. To reprogram them, you have to go download an application, download a zip file of code, unzip it to the right place, select some things, plug the Shades in, and go. Adding text patterns (i.e. "MASSDROP RULES") is pretty straight forward. Adding your own patterns and crazy stuff requires an ability to modify existing or write new code.
I do know a lot of non-technical people that have successfully added their own text patterns for different events :)
