Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

This is what I own/owned:
Magaosi K5 NuForce HEM8 NuForce Primo8 Westone 4R (which are now broken) UE 900S 1MORE Quad Noble X Kinera H3 TFZ Series 5S Etymotic ER-4S FutureSonics Atrio m6 FutureSonics Atrio m5 BrainWavz S5 Westone TS1 Klipsch X4i Blue Ever 328R NVX IE2GR NVX IE3RC NVX IEWR2
NuForce EDC3 are arriving on Friday, and have on order Noble Luxe. I've been waivering on the Noble K10, but still can't justify the cost.
Noble X - no issues sharp tones overall, but there are times the "s" sound can be slightly harsh, bass comes through without overwhelming other instruments, lively and punchy
1MORE Quads - "sh" sounds are sharper, but not overwhelming, bass is a little muddled compared to Noble X
Magaosi K5 - "sh" and "s" sounds are much sharper, almost ear piercing at times, definitely not the one for you, bass is excellent though, can hear details of every instrument, lively and punchy
UE 900S - similar to the Noble X, but the "sh" and "s" sounds are gentler on the Noble X
Kinera H3 - "sh" sounds are similar to Noble X, but "s" is sharper, overall similar to 1MORE Quads
NuForce HEM8 - similar to Magasoi K5, overall, the "sh" and "s" sounds are not as sharp, but at higher volumes or when the vocals go up in decibels it is noticeable, but the Knowles drivers do shine overall
NuForce Primo8 - similar to HEM8, but the "sh" and "s" sounds are gentler, overall not as lively or punchy as the HEM8 overall, bass is more muddled on the Primo8, one note is I am not a fan of the cables on the Primo8, the memory part around the ears are more diffcult to mold around ears
NuForce EDC3 - I'm having a problem with the right ear, I'm hearing feedback when the vocalist ups the decibels on your vid, so will need to contact Massdrop on this. I don't hear the feedback on the other song I tried, but then, it has a lot of instruments and it's not acapella like your vid. Aside from that, the sound is similar Noble X, but still prefer Noble X.
TFZ Series 5S - no issues with "sh" nor "s" sounds, it remarkable sounds similar to the Noble X, the Noble X is livelier/punchier, but the "s" sound is also slightly more sharper than the TFZ 5S.
Therefore, surprisingly, I would have to recommend the TFZ 5S for you due to the sensitivity, but the Noble X is better overall if you aren't as sensitive to the "s" sound alone. Just keep in mind the bass is not as good as the Noble X.
If you are looking for BOTH nice bass that doesn't overwhelm other instruments yet not muddled, and where acapella vocals are don't have any sharpness, I don't think any of these would be what you are looking for.
I contacted Westone on this, they told me because it was a discontinued model, they can't repair it, and to just purchase one of their updated IEMs.
When something similar happened to my FutureSonics, where the cables frayed, they sent me a replacement pair for free, even though my pair was already out of warranty, and gave me their updated model. Too bad those cables frayed as well.. but it was their generosity that counted and I would purchase any of their equipment in a heartbeat.
The same goes for Etymotic, when I was having an issue with my ER4S way back when, they too replaced the bad IEM, and it was also out of warranty.
NuForce did the same as well, replaced my HEM8 when one ear went out (in-warranty) and MassDrop replaced my EDC3 recently when one ear was giving feedback.
I was surprised how shitty the EDC and EDC3 were. They sound identical and they sound like $5 buds. My favorites so far are the Magaosi K5 and the Ostry KC09.
The Outlier Sports are my favorites for workouts due to their heavy bass (which is what I like when working out) and their fantastic bluetooth connectivity. They are the only bluetooth buds I've used that never loose connection when my phone is in my pocket.
I should add I returned the Jaybird X3 because of their terrible bluetooth connectivity and overall poor audio quality.
The K5 are the best fit out of all of them.
