Do I Need to Lube My Keyboard Switches?
Figure 1: Sometime around here is a good time to ask that question... If you’re new to the mechanical keyboard hobby, I have no doubt that planning your first keyboard build is a bit of a daunting task. To be entirely honest with you, it’s only a tiny bit less daunting for your second or even third keyboard builds should you stay around a little while longer. Ordered an all Grey Casing with the "Typewriter" styled key-caps all in CherryMX Brown switches because she has to be the one using it rather than me. Always safer to go with Browns rather than the gaterons, simply because I don't trust their longevity here.
CherryMXs always last longer when used over time.
The TKL which I used quite a bit, started having a different feel when used. The keys I used most had taken on the task of wobbling when pressed and they were far easier to push down. The other keys that were not regularly used attained their firmness and wobbled less.
Granted, I'm no light fingered ballerina when using my keyboards but these Gaterons, lose their firmness far quicker than any CherryMX switched keyboard. You will find out for yourself when you buy one of these and use it for over a year. Remember Gaterons originally are just cheap versions of the CherryMX, so why take a risk when spending your money?
I was curious in just trying the gaterons out but in the end the choice was clear, the original Cherry's were the way to go.
This of course is just my decision, so don't go scribing it upon any Tablet and run down the mountain and later proclaim it as the only truth worth knowing ; )
