I got one with the flap. At first I was not happy with the size of the pen slots, but I found pens that would fit it. I put Sheaffer Preludes and Sagaris in my case. The big slot is the only one that would hold a regular size fountain pen, without roughing up the pen too much, in my opinion. I put an Ahab in each slot for a while, to sort of open up the slot, so when I added a pen, it wouldn't rough up the exterior so much. I would not put a high dollar pen in these cases. The flap hopefully will loosen with use, and not be so stiff. It does not go down over the clips of your pens. Also the middle two pens turn when you close the case. You want it to turn if you don't want your clips to rub each other. The case was well built, but they need to work on the design a little more. It is worth the money, and should last a long time. However it is designed for very narrow pens for the most part.
