I own the Carstel Sant'Angelo https://www.massdrop.com/buy/manufactus-carstel-sant-angelo and that buckle (much bigger than this one) doesn't really bother me at all. That being said, I like that flip/twist approach to dealing with the buckle, when I finish my current insert I'm going to give that a try.
I really wanted to like (and buy) this journal however something about the look of it kept bothering me. Finally I realized, rotated 90 degrees it looks like a woman's clutch. I'm not the type to have my masculinity defined by my possessions, but I do like my possessions to represent me, and this look does not.
Then there is the egregious decision to not fit A5 dimensions. Even if I could get past the look (or were to purchase as a present) A5 is a standard everyone is used to, and can easily be found. I've stockpiled Midori Cotton A5 inserts https://www.amazon.com/Design-Phil-Midori-Cotton-Shinsho/dp/B00CAL4T0E/ref=pd_sim_sbs_201_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=31ftNCUpg6L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&psc=1&refRID=N62XVFBAY8AKYCYYXY73 (best tree-free inserts I can find) and buying a journal that won't fit A5 makes no sense.
For these reasons, Manufactus Colonna Leather Journal, you've been chopped.
