Just got mine, missing the clip though
Did this ship? i never saw mine.
Here's the thing, a different drop here features the TEC Isotope Reactor Fob for $36.99. And even if you're satisfied with the price you still have to fork out another $35-$45 to stock it with tritium vials. And yet, 21 have sold so far and all of the goals have been met. It's just a dumb fob that hangs off of your keychain.

Yet, here, with a very useful device like a flashlight, there is obvious resistance to joining the drop. Only 7 have been purchased so far with 4 committed if the goal or 20 is met. With less than 2 days left this is in question. Why?
Because there is no consensus that a "deal" exists here. Especially for a site like Massdrop, the success of offers hinges on the perception that a "deal" exists with the 'group buying' concept. If very few perceive that a drop is a "deal" then there will be resistance and a lack of response.
In this case, the MSRP is $65 is unrealistic when sites like CountyComm are offering the same light for $48.50 and even have it on sale for $35 occasionally. With this kind of competition, even $42.99 is not perceived as a "deal" to jump at. There has to be a compelling reason to join and participate at sites like Massdrop. It should be the "deals". Unfortunately, this is not always the case. :-(
Am I being unreasonable here?
glennac
Perfectly reasonable. It's simply not a deal. Maybe in a few months Countycomm will drop the price for reals on their site and then I'll pull the trigger, but not for this.

To your question why the community not joining the drop, inspite of its price & feature. My personal opinion & experience. Once after warranty, there is no after sales service assistance for part replacement you can expect from Massdrop. 14 months old brass AAA massdrop/lumintop, use as paper weight or bin it. I contact massdrop & lumintop cannot even buy the much needed tail cap due to its faulty e-switch. You dont buy a new flashlight every year, do you? Price is one issue, sometimr there is the sentimental issue behind the gift which the owner wish to get it fix & keep not replace

AND no waiting weeks and weeks for the drop shipment at CountyComm....
RHPICAYUNE
For guys in the US this is a crappy deal indeed. But for those who don't live in North America the total cost (price + shipping) of the TPF light looks enticing. A $4-ish shipping fee to PH? I might join this drop
What a shame. 🤔 I’ve been waiting for the Copper one to go on sale. But $5 bucks is not what I would consider a Deal on a nearly $50 item. Then, you lose the $5 break when you choose the Copper one. After still paying shipping AND have to wait several weeks? There’s no discount here at all. What’s the advantage over simply buying it at CountyComm for $48.50?
There is suppose to be an advantage to group buying here. But I don’t see it, especially in this case. 🤷🏻‍♂️
None of the photos show the button end. What kind of button is it? Clicky? Rubber? Or Electronic?

Massdrop, are you buying these somewhere for $30, then reselling to us at basically CountyComm's price? We expect if we, as a group, buy a ton of these lights, we could get them at a much better price than saving $1 or two.... Check out this screenshot of my CountyComm cart--in stock now and free shipping at $75 !

Where is it made?
SethJ
Made by Lumintop in China.
Does anyone know how to adjust the brightness for this flashlight? It was adverised as having 3 levels of brightness ( Medium / Low/ High ), but mine only does on/off.

Yes... what IanEDC said... I have the copper and that's how it works. You sure it's not changing brightness between on/off cycles?
MrTomahawk
From personal experience, I expect that the top of the flashlight was already screwed on tight when you first put the battery in. Then it would have lit up immediately as soon as the bottom cap was screwed on to seal in the battery. You need to securely tighten the bottom cap, then loosen the top one. By the way, when the top cap is loosened just enough for the light to go out, you can then preview the different brightness levels by simply squeezing the whole flashlight, top to bottom.
Please offer the TPF with a Nichia 219 LED!
low_rez
Yeah without the Nichia 219 is a deal breaker. Need a WARM beam! :)
The lens on my light is slightly loose is this normal?
How much was the light during the last drop? (Final price)
Will there be another drop of this flashlight in the near future?

I’m a fan of the brass. Feels good in the hand
ALEC_B
Ditto!
Edit: oh and also, "thats what she said!"
the bottom is with a magnet?
SilverCrest
No.
SilverCrest
What I did was picked up some round rare earth magnets on ebay for dirt cheap and crazy glued one to the bottom, worked like a charm. I cant remember the size I got but you can find them in almost the exact diameter of the light
between this and the massdrop blue titanium AAA, which would you get?

Thank you for the excellent information, awk!
This is a good way to think about it - it's a work lamp, not a flashlight.
I was in love with the idea of a right angle flashlight that I could just clip onto a backpack or what have you but between the short throw of the Maratec and the impracticality of actually pointing it where I want (unless where I want it is a fixed position) it wasn't what I was expecting.
I lost it at a beach bonfire and frankly don't miss it.
I own the Stainless version of this light. It has an unusual throw for such a small light. It truly is a personal flood. It took sometime getting use to the mechanics of the switch as I've never owned a light with a twist type switch. Now that I've had it for a few weeks, I perfer it since it always comes on at the medium setting first. I own a few Maratac products and none have ever let me down, everything seems well made and purposely thought out.
Is this waterproof?
MichaelAtOz
i'd say no. not waterPROOF. doesn't seem like they have rated it for any kind of water contact, but it is built well enough to withstand some contact i'm sure. it's a great little light. really stylish, sturdy, and good function. seems like people have dropped it in water and found it still working fine...
Countycomm had the copper on sale for Labor Day for $35. I picked up two but just checked and they are now back up to $65.
