Surprised this Drop has stuck around so long. I got the copper version of this light a few weeks ago and that Drop got full in a couple of hours and even when it was extended it filled up quick.

whackoCoz there's no substitute to the beauty of copper ;). Better thermal conductivity and not to mention the beauty of patina. Here's hoping MD would offer the Copper AA too.

StrummI picked up the copper one during the last drop and it is pretty sweet, but since copper is so soft it is prone to scratching against the other stuff in my pocket. The patina is nice though.

brainwaveI guess that depends on what you prefer. The copper looks nice but it is prone to scratching because the metal is soft. Also it patinas very quickly so if you like the "new penny " shininess it ships with you are going to have to polish it often. The SS should be more resistant to scratches and should stay shiny longer.

whackoI do hope you're not relying on Maratac SS for reliability alone. As much as I love my Maratac Copper (thanks to MD), if you want a tough EDC, I'm afraid Maratac SS might disappoint.

StrummI have several Eiger and other Peak LED lights and my copper Maratac AAA feels just as sturdy as any of them. I am not worried about it breaking or failing to light when I need it. I don't see why SS would be weaker than copper, but I guess I'll find out.
Not saying anything bad about Peak, I have a couple of Matterhorn lights (Eiger predecessor) that are almost a decade old and they are still as bright and reliable as ever, but Peak lights also start off at twice the price of a Maratac so you really need to factor price when setting expectations with devices such as these.

whackoHaha damn you looks like I might have to get one of this SS as well to partner with the Eiger Copper and the Maratac Copper. I love the Maratac with an Eneloop Pro. Nice hot spot and good spill. How's your SS so far? Is it your primary EDC now? Your impressions would be awesome to push me and some readers over the edge. And thanks to MD for having this drop so soon.

StrummThe Maratac SS is a nice little light but it isn't as nice as the copper. I don't know if it is a difference in how they are polished or something but the knurling on the SS is a little but slippery compared to the knurling on the copper which is very sharp. Also the head of the copper twists very smoothly while the SS is a little rough.
Overall the SS is a good little flashlight, but for about the same price the copper is nicer.

whackoCool thanks for the reply. I've noticed that County Comm rated the SS to have higher lumens on High in comparison to the Cu. Did you notice the brightness difference? And also, how's the SS in terms of scratches against your keys and stuff with your pocket EDC?

whackoThanks for posting this. I have a couple of the coppers and I mainly got them because the price was so close to SS. I guess I'll skip this drop and hopefully they will get the brass version.

StrummThe SS seemed a little bit brighter at the highest setting than my copper Maratac, however the difference wasn't dramatic. LEDs tend to vary slightly in their output even in the same batch so I can't really tell if the LED is rated for higher lumens or this particular emitter was just a little brighter.
I have carried the stainless for only a few days and it has some light scratches from my other EDC gear but overall they seem less noticeable than the scratches my copper light gets. I think part of the reason scratches don't show up is because the light is shiny, whereas scratches on the copper version remove some of the patina in addition to scratching the metal revealing brighter metal beneath.
The stainless feels a little lighter than the copper light, but it also feels strong and well made, and seems to be fairly scratch resistant. A lot of people like the copper light, but as someone who goes out in the woods fairly often I can tell you the copper comes very close in color to the leaves that often cover the forest floor. Having a light remain shiny and silver the way the SS version of this light does can be really helpful if it happens to fall from your belt or pocket.

HappyHoundsYeah the copper ones are well made, and if you have a couple of them you aren't really missing anything if you skip on the stainless version. I also wish MD would get the brass lights, just so I can complete my set :)
