Aside from the cool factor, does this light offer any functional advantage over using just a plain old headlamp? I understand that it is less cumbersome to EDC than a headlamp, so that's one reason.
Just trying to figure out if this has any place in my collection.
Thanks.

K.T.N@K.T.N. Most headlights are 3xAAA, or 4xAA (counter balanced at the back of your head), or custom rechargeable.
I think this is the best form factor for a 1xAA. You can take it out of the headband and use it as a regular flash light. Clip it on your shirt pocket. Stand it up and have sideways illumination. Lay it down and have diffused lighting reflecting off the ceiling.
Also, not that this is a flood light. It gives a nice even beam (no hotspot) in your field of view. Really nice for closeup work like in your tent, around the campsite or indoors. You'll need a headlamp with a lot more throw for walking about outdoors.
I have the Zebralight H502w and highly recommend it. It's twice as bright for almost the same runtime. It has a true moonlight mode (< 1lm). It also has a warm tint that looks much more pleasant outdoors on the greens and browns. But it's twice the price, so the Maratac is a good option if you don't want to spend that much.

JoeFI got the H502w around the time this Maratac drop first showed up. Per my previous post in this discussion thread, you can get it for about 1.5x the price, not twice.
Recently, I changed a bunch of halogen PAR30 bulbs in recessed canisters to their LED equivalents in my house. Since the LED versions are a couple of inches longer, I had to adjust the socket arm up within the canisters to make it look right. The extra light output of the H502w made a big difference in the readability of the scale within the canister. I highly recommend it over this Maratac.
