Rated down to 20 degrees and rich with features, the Marmot Ion sleeping bag is designed to make your nights on the trail as comfortable as possible. It stands out for its hybrid construction, with water-resistant goose down in the top half and synthetic down on the bottom. This allows the bag to be easily compressible for storage in your pack without compressing as much under your body, keeping the insulation value high. The Ion uses 850-fill-power goose down and super-efficient Thermal R Micro inside a 12d and 15d nylon mini ripstop shell, and weighs less than 29 ounces.
Note: At checkout, choose the Marmot Ion or the Marmot Ion Long (+ $25) in cinder/cobalt blue. All bags are left zip only.
The Ion sleeping bag features body-mapped down, a full-length left-side zipper, and a snagless insulated draft tube, and comes with a stuff sack and storage sack. It's equipped with a Nautilus multi-baffle drawcord hood, an anatomically designed wrap-around footbox, and a curved baffle construction to reduce shifting down. It also features a right-side shoulder zip that increases ventilation when you need it and comes in handy when reading at night. Need a bit more room? The Ion Long adds six inches of interior length and weighs just 2.5 ounces more.
Now one of the largest outdoor retailers in the world, Marmot started out as a small brick-and-mortar store in Grand Junction, Colorado—the brainchild of Eric Reynolds, Dave Huntley, and Tom Boyce. By the time they opened up shop in 1973, Eric and Dave had already been making prototypes of down products in their University of California, Santa Cruz dorm room for years. Their big break came in 1974, when the trio was asked to design a puffy jacket for the cast and crew of The Eiger Sanction: a Clint Eastwood film set in the mountains of Switzerland. Today, Marmot’s lineup runs the gamut from backpacks and apparel to sleeping bags and tents for camping, hiking, snowsports, alpine climbing, adventure travel, and beyond.
