With a design that's waterproof, windproof, breathable, and incredibly comfortable, the Marmot Minimalist jacket protects you from the elements year round. It's made using Paclite—the lightest, most packable fabric from Gore-Tex Read More
gnarledcouleeI actually own both jackets and I love both in different ways. The precip postitives are: lighter, packs down smaller, fits better and has never let me down in the rain. Precip negatives: more crinkle sound with movement and I do not like the separate hood and collar(really hate this part). The minimalist positives: less crinkle, material feels tougher, better sealing zippers. Negatives: doesnt pack quite as small, the torso is a little short so my base layer does slightly stick out on bottom, annoying but not a deal breaker. Hope that helps some. Can't go wrong with either but the precip is half the price. Something to consider along with your intended purpose.
For reference I am 6'1", 195lbs, in shape and I have both in large

andymmetzWe are very thorough with our price checking prior to starting any drop to make sure our community gets the best deal at that time. Things change though, and we do appreciate when members share a better deal elsewhere. That being said, the REI sale you referred to is only for the Lichen Green jacket in size small. The rest of the jackets are at full MSRP. @andymmetz
Hueon@Hueon - Thanks for the post. This jacket is as waterproof as any other GoreTex jacket out there, so there is nothing inherently lacking in the jacket or the fabric. Most instances of jackets losing their waterproofness is related to improper care. Any waterproof/breathable apparel needs to be cleaned on a regular basis (dirt and body oil enables transfer of H2O), and occasionally revived with DWR treatment. I've heard from multiple sources that an iron on the lowest heat setting can also help renew the waterproofness. Obviously only do this with extreme caution.
Having said all that , most people feel like their waterproof breathable jacket is wet inside not because the waterproofness is failing, but because the breathability is lacking. This is a well documented issue, yet there is no magical fabric (though there are some that are more breathable). Even GoreTex's breathability tests are based upon 100% humidity - meaning that the jacket starts to breath only after you have started sweating a lot, and at that point can't breath enough to push the humid air out, resulting in a clammy feeling at best, to a soaked baselayer.
To the point about Amazon ratings: I don't put much faith in them either, but this jacket does have 4.5 out of 5 star rating, FWIW.
Just type it in Google. Massdrop is great, so not trying to interfere with their business. Just providing some feedback that they might be able to use to press the vendor for larger discounts.
Bought this in a previous drop. Good jacket but not long enough in the torso for me, my base layers stick out as most of my clothing is athletic/tall fit. 6f 175lbs longer than average torso.
