Weighing just 2.8 ounces, the Maserin Carbon is easy to carry, and even easier to look at. It features a lightweight yet sturdy carbon fiber handle with a gleaming weave pattern running throughout, which gives the folder a refined aesthetic Read More
I have a Benchmade carbon fiber knife. While it is high quality and good design, I never wear it, as I cannot stand the low weight. I got several other ones of the same design in aluminum in different colors, and those are a different story due to the increased weight and better balance. I'll don't think I will ever buy another carbon fiber knife unless for pure collection purposes. And that one either must be exceedingly rare or just a totally awesome design
Just received it this week ...
Nice ... but a little bit disappointed with few details...
Starting with that impossible lock spring ... so hard I can't unlock it easily ! ( hollowed aperture is a little tiny I would say ... and I don't have huge fingers ! :-) )
Sharpening has been obviously forgotten ... I had to trim it with my spyderco MF stone ... all good now !
Also was wondering about the carbon ... if it could cope with damp, water, saussage grease ? ...
as it does not seem to be lacquered or anything ? 🤔...
( Any splinter risk ?... )
Apart from that , I like it very much ... 😊
Elegant and feather weight !
( A small pouch would have been appreciated though ! )
I have seen some confusion from people over the steel and the thumbstud. Maserin recently, in the last 1-2 years switched this knife from AUS8 to N690 I happen to have the AUS8 version and it is still great they knew how to make a good AUS8 blade I can only expect good things from N690 a steel they have used in many more knives. The older images show no thumbstud but there has always been the cutout in the handle for the thumbstud I believe original images were from an early prototype as I have never seen this model w/o a thumbstud. I love this knife and have had it for several years the knife is easy, at least for me, to flip open with the extended tang on the blade. The knife pivot can be easily tightened or loosened for desired ease/speed of flipping. I would say only negative I have for mine is the detent is somewhat weak and to achieve the desired action required loosing the pivot enough to result in being able to shake the blade out with strong force.
The lanyard hole is on the wrong end. The idea of a lanyard is to assist in pulling the knife out of the sheath, pocket, etc. and to act as an assist to lengthen the length of the knife for the hand. Having a lanyard at the open end of the clip serves little to no purpose. I have no idea why knife manufacturers sometimes get this wrong. I like Maserin knives and have a few of them but this is a major defect for me, especially when the handle is so short that it needs a lanyard.
Again, I agree with you. That is becuase the clip is attached on MOST knives opposite of the pivot end. The solution with the Maserin would be to have provided threaded holes on the back end of the knife where the heal of your have would rest so that the clip could be flipped around and positioned there - where the lanyard hole already exists. Problem solved.
However, Maserin chose not to provid threaded holes so you cannot move the clip. As it stands, you still cannot possition a lanyard hole on the Pivot end, where the end of the clip currently is, because inserting a lanyard ther would interfere with the opening and closing of the knife - right?
I agree! This is one of the few knives where you can't configure it to your liking - the clip needs to be attached to the other end of the handle.
glennacI have no idea what you mean by threaded hole, a lanyard hole is not threaded and the clip holes for the screws to hold it on are threaded? You I have totally clouded the issue which was this knife put the lanyard hole at the wrong end relative to the clip position which is very rare. This item has ended long ago, I did not buy it for the reason that they got it wrong. You could have fooled me that you agree with me.
This looks like a nice little knife that checks a lot of boxes for me. Big question I have is, does this have flipper action or does it have to be opened slowly? A small front flipper with thumb studs in silver CF would be a home run.
lxchinThe Description and Photos appear to be incorrect. Folks who have received this knife in earlier drops are reporting N690 steel and the presence of a thumb stud. (See comments below)
