Hey everyone,
Our past drops for these AAA flashlights in Brass, Copper and Titanium have been very popular in the Everyday Carry community and with other members just learning about EDC. A lot of members like the patina you can get on Brass or Copper (and remove if you don't like it), but the 'worn' look and heavier body are not for everyone. The Blue Titanium AAA light has also been a fast seller, but the discussion included some comments about that material's lower ability to dissipate heat, even with the driver mounted to an exposed copper 'pill' - probably not an issue for a light with this much power, but something we listened to.
Thanks to the popularity of past drops (over 10,000 members have joined!) we've been able to make this Aluminum version available. It's got all the same great features, like the titanium clicky switch on the tail, removable and reversible pocket clip, and your choice of CREE or Nichia 219C for LEDs.
At just 12g (without battery), this aluminum model is the lightest one yet, and the material also has a high thermal conductivity for excellent heat dissipation. New for this drop, we've been able to offer five different colors of anodization - Black, Blue, Olive Drab, Red, and Silver - to complement the other items in your EDC.
Thanks to everyone for checking it out, and to those who join for making it possible!
Carry On - Jonas

To help give you and other members a better understand of how this works for regular drops vs. Massdrop Made goods, let me clarify a few things:
1) We do not "pre-order or have on standby" any items that we sell in regular drops, or most collaborations. The purchase orders are made after the drops end in almost all cases.
2) Items that are produced by Massdrop are quite different from brands that we simply resell. Kershaw, for example, is sold from stock that a vendor already has on hand and agrees to reserve for us until the drop ends, then ships within a couple days of the drop ending.
As @Evshrug noted, with products that Massdrop produces and has manufactured exclusively for members, there's an entire production process, plus QC and shipment and clearing customs etc. that has to be done.
Hope that helps to shed some light on the longer-than-expected Estimated Ship Date.

I’m cool with QC before they get shipped to me, haha!
Which Nichia 219C LED is this using? 90+CRI 4000k? Would be great if you could confirm.
Stuck battery in light, clicked the button, nothing happened (normal up to this point as the insert says the cap must charge). However, now that it illuminates, the button does nothing. I can unscrew the cap to cycle through modes but the button does nothing. This happen to anyone else?
And, BTW Kids, these lights will run off 10440s, provided you don't go nuts with the high setting. Just thought I'd throw that out there for my fellow flashoholics
Hi everyone, The Massdrop Aluminum AAA Flashlight has arrived at the warehouse and the team is wrapping up quality control checks. We estimate that the flashlights will start shipping out soon. We’re looking forward to you receiving your Massdrop Aluminum AAA Flashlight!
What is shipping on this for continental U.S.?
Is this made in USA or China?
Any chance you'll be doing another drop on these? I really really want a silver Nichia one and unfortunately your e-mails stopped coming through on my account. I've ordered all of the previous brass and titanium drops and I'm really wanting a few of these to round out my collection. Thanks!!
I did have an issue with the flashlight only having 2 modes instead of 3, the replacement was noticeably not as bright as the original.
How long should it take for the actuator to charge? I’ve had a good battery in it for 10-15 min now and it still won’t work
please tell me about the colors. Is the red a nice red, deep, dark, or is it tending towards pink? And how about the blue one?
thanks!
why do I keep buying these
I thought this had memory. Can’t find my small instruction sheet. Does it have memory?
climbthemtns
Hi, there's no memory feature. It's always l-m-h as you click through the levels.
Question about color reproduction: I have another light with a Nichia 219b which has a very white, color-correct beam. Is the Nichia 219c similar or not?
absquatulation
From my understanding on CPF, it's a touch cooler, color wise, than the 219b. Still a nice warm CRI emitter though!
6061 or 7075 aluminum please?
I got the nichia drop, I have 2 10440 removeable lithium batteries. It works on the light, but is it safe on the bulb for long term use? I'd rather use these than rechargable aaa's because I would have to buy them, and i have the 10440's already.
Benjji
With a maximum working voltage of 1.5 volts, this flashlight cannot handle lithium ion cells.
Mine just came in and I have to say, it's pretty underwhelming. The generic ones I have from Amazon that cost way less does a better job.
Anyone else annoyed by the rattling click button? Other than that good little flashlight but obvious lack of attention to detail when something rattles pretty loudly on such a tiny item.
9 days to reach the Utah? Is someone walking it here? ><
Honestly just eager to have it.
bposter
I feel you man. Free shipping is nice and all but 10 days from shipping notification to actual delivery is effing ridiculous.
bposter
To keep things authentic, they're hiking it in.
I hope they have a boat load of extras after they deliver the first runs. These are looking to be most of my Xmas shopping to the family sense they were all trying to thief my brass and copper versions on camping trips. Great options Massdrop keep up the good work.
Any updates on production / shipping? Thanks!
OakParkMusicGuy
They emailed yesterday they are in house and should be shipping next week.
numonix
Thanks! Ha, I got that same email not long after I posted.
Does this light turn on as the button is being pushed in or is it after clicking the button?
FireInMyBones
mid click works for a quick on off option in short bursts
Does this always start on low, or does it remember the last setting? And is it possible to disable the medium setting?
TJ_Gee
No memory so yes LMH
Is it possible to know the binning on the the Nichia 219C’s? I’m interested in the high CRI models, like 90+, I am wondering what this flashlight uses?
Yup I'm the A-hole likes to call out on products…110 lumens for 30 mins and you have to click through the output settings, how long is the warranty? I use Milwaukee, 100 lumens 3.3 hours for the same price, and all Milwaukees are 5 years on the warranty, besides the service center is 2 miles from my house…1 click on 2nd click off that's it! Guess what it's the same price! Here's the link! Point taken…"torches" you from UK?
Couldn't have stated that ANY better. Yes, I'm a flashoholic- have been since a backpacking trip to New Mexico when I was 16 (turning 47 soon). Once I realized the breadth of emitters, li Ion batteries, etc, there was no turning back. I even managed to get myself into all kinds of trouble when I was in the USAF as carrying a flashlight on one's person was considered an illegal tool. Didn't matter, still used my own lighting and was EXTREMELY careful about keeping tabs on my "illegal tool light". Sooooo, there are folks like me on CPF (Candlepower Forums) and here who look for lights on a ENTIRELY different level than your "standard" flashlight consumer. And yes, we flashlight geeks freak out over seemingly stupid/trivial things and use silly terms like Corona, Spill and Emitter color to describe flashlight performance. What I've found being on Massdrop is that the lights they sell here are usually a TAD overpriced for what they are, and they have yet to convince smaller specialized lighting Companies like Skylumen.com to sell on here. Until then, I continue to find little gems on here from time to time, in ALL categories- I just need to do some Googling to find out whether the price/options offerred here is worth it or not. Happy New year!!
GAH!!! Lumintop keeps coming out with more styles! I LOVE the Olive one, but I already have a black aluminum original model, the brass one, and one of the Blue aluminum AA models is in the mail...
But I REALLY like greeeeen!
In for the red. The other colors look too similar to the other five I have. (wtf how did i end up with five of these things?!)

Lunchable
Yeah, three here as well. No aluminums...yet. But I'm quite happy with the premium metal ones that I do have.

glennac
Me too. Addictive little things. I've got the same three that you do.
which one goes best with a black gent? Silver? Black?
CapitalistCat
Depends on the warmth of said gent's skin tone, doesn't it? Every level of white and black can be warm or cold, depending.
I've got a "cold" pale complexion and silver looks much better than gold on me. My girlfriend, on the nether hind, has warm-toned dark skin, which is why I gave her the brass version of this light and a copper peanut Maratac that she wears around her neck on a copper chain. She looks great with both! And she never wears silver, for some reason.
Ye olde gent might want to look at the watches and rings he prefers and pick a torch color that goes with that aesthetic.
Still no Hello-Kitty version? I'm out of here...

Makes a nice Xmas gift!
What parts make the weight savings so that this light is 12.2g vs the 15g for the Lumintop Tool AAA version? Interested in this over the Lumintop almost purely due to the weight difference and the fact this is L M H even though its only 0.1 oz difference. I have been looking for the lightest AAA light available.
dholcombe
Notice the difference in length...
Massdrop version: 2.9 x 0.6 in Lumintop Tool: 3.2 x 0.6 in
That additional 0.3 in of length, and material, could easily account for the additional weight of the Tool. Then the you have the mechanics of a clicky button vs the electronic button of the Massdrop version. Makes sense to me.
glennac
I hadn't looked at the dimensions to notice it was shorter. I was also assuming a titanium buttons weighs more than a plastic one. I wonder if they could save even a bit more weight by making the button out of aluminum as well instead of titanium or if the aluminum would need to be thicker. Titanium is much denser/heavier for the same volume of material. The Tool Ti is significantly heavier than the aluminum ones for that reason because they either didn't or weren't able to take advantage of the strength of titanium to make it thinner.
