Hi Everybody,
Thank you for your interest, participation and subsequent passionate feedback about our first ever Massdrop Monthly Magic Blue Box.
What has transpired with this drop is clearly not what our intentions were, or acceptable by any stretch of the imagination. We've spent the weekend dissecting this drop from the ground up. We've reviewed our notes, as well as every comment, reddit post, Massdrop Support feedback, and tweets to determine the different issues involved, problems that we had, and solutions to those problems. Here's what we came up with, one by one:
1) "Perceived" value in the box One of the draws to Massdrop is that we offer groups the ability to get a better price together than if they had ordered individually. We advertise those discounts, using a percentage savings, and we calculate that based on MSRP. However, MSRP does not accurately reflect the market prices for MTG Cards for all individuals. Some people actually pay $3.99 per booster, while others are able to secure prices significantly lower. Everybody has a different "market price/value" depending on their local availability, shipping costs, etc. To avoid confusion, for future Massdrop Monthly Magic Blue Box drops, we will no longer advertise an MSRP value with the box. Overall, we believe that with the first Massdrop Monthly Magic Blue Box, the value that users received in their boxes were reasonably representative of the amounts that was charged, accurate relative to MSRP amounts, but slightly lower than what we targeted for the $150 box. Future blue box offerings at that level will be calibrated to have a little more product value in them to make them more worthwhile.
2) “Product Pool” Photographs It's clear that our photographs showing the product pool were misguided. We wanted people to have an idea of the different things they could end up seeing in the box that they received (i.e. a $50 blue box will not have a booster box, of any set, ever). What we have concluded is that this is not the best way to illustrate the prize pool, and moving forward we will not be presenting any images of what a potential box could provide. As many of you pointed out, you would rather see the individual items and probability distributions associated with those items. This is a fabulous suggestion and we will implement this with the next drop.
3) "Randomness" of the boxes When we setup the drop, we had every intention on having the boxes be more randomized than they were. This was a miscommunication between us and our vendor, and we apologize for the lack of randomness in your boxes. Keep in mind that making hundreds of randomized boxes that have similar values using similar product, but also be different- is extremely difficult, but we can definitely do better than "same thing, different color". The pool item description and probabilities associated with them should serve to illustrate the randomness you can expect from subsequent boxes.
4) Existing/Previous Drop participants While the three points above address how we're going to make things better in the future, we have not forgotten the past. Those that have participated in this most recent drop are our community pioneers that took a leap of faith to support the Massdrop mission and have been mostly disappointed with the result. Your trust in us is our most valuable asset and we ask that you give us the chance to earn that back. Our goal is to solve the problems above for existing drop users by presenting solutions that address the issues. For those feeling like they received insufficient value, they will get a partial or full refund. For those who are unhappy with the lack of randomness, we offer a cost effective chance to participate in future randomness. Here are the details:
Option 1: For those who opened their products, trust that we will make the Massdrop Monthly Magic Blue Box program better and want to participate in a future Massdrop Monthly Magic Blue Box: Fill out the form below, choose Option 1, and you will receive 20% off the next Massdrop Monthly Magic Blue Box offering and a 10% refund on your current blue box order. The refund will be credited back based on your payment method.
Option 2: For those who opened their products, and do not plan to participate in a Massdrop Monthly Magic Blue Box again: Fill out the form below, choose Option 2, and you will receive 20% refund on your current Massdrop Monthly Magic Blue Box order. This will be credited back based on your payment method.
Option 3: For those who just want a refund and have not opened any of the products: Fill out the form below, choose Option 3, and Massdrop Support will contact you to ship the product back for a full refund. (Unopened means the shrink wrap, foil packaging, etc. Opening the external shipping box does not count as "opened", any internal packaging does count as "opened").
Here's the link to the refund/coupon form: http://dro.ps/mtgblueboxform
Once you submit the form it will take 2 business days for us to process it. Please complete the form by May 31, 2016.
In closing, we would like to thank all of you for being so vocal in this discussion board (and elsewhere). You came here to tell us your concerns in a meaningful and intelligent way because you want us to succeed. We hope that our response to you has addressed these issues in a satisfactory way and look forward to serving the community in the future.

Henry_LWhat about those of us that open our sealed product after being so disappointed in the quality of the "accessories" and lack of what they felt was advertised? Would consideration be taken for a one time only offer (to prevent the same for future drops) for a partial refund? EDIT: I'm talking sending back some of the product. I.e. If w sent back the cardboard crack, frayed dice bag, dice set, pop figure..,

Henry_LAnd for the people who haven't received shipping information? Apparently asking once is not sufficient.
I thought it would be interesting to see what would happen on each level, so I made the mistake of ordering more than one choice. Taking the actual results out of the picture, I can see that this is far more unfortunate than previously noted.

jhowell1030We are not giving refunds on partial orders. The partial refund for every entire order is designed to compensate you for the quality/randomness/value differential.

Henry_LI chose option 1. I hope you don't disappoint again, because I liked the concept but the execution was sorely lacking.

Henry_LI really appreciate your response this whole thing. I'll be choosing option 1 in the hopes of a much better drop in the future and while I'm not too happy with this drop according to how it was marketed, I'm alright with what I got for my money.
I hope you guys are going to email this out to all drop participants, as well. I'm sure there will be some otherwise happy people that request a partial refund anyway, but that's a hit you're going to have to take to make sure everyone is happy with this going forward. I'm sure there are plenty of people upset with the product that will never see this post if it's never posted anywhere but here.

Henry_LDoes the discount from option 1 need to be used on the next Monthly Blue Box or would I be able to wait a few months to use it? Also if I can wait how much of a guarantee do I have that this drop will continue to happen for multiple more months?

Henry_LYou have satisfactorily addressed the issue, in my opinion. I'm glad the community got together on this and really stuck together. MTG nerds are the best nerds! This is how a company keeps my business and considering how foolish I am with money, that's a good thing for them!

Henry_LI was really hoping for a Shadows Over Innistrad box. Of course I understood that it was supposed to be random, but now I'm stuck with an Oath of the Gatewatch box that I don't intend to use.
Is there any way that this unopened box can be sent back? I don't even care much about a refund; I'd rather have the Shadows box. Is there a possibility for an exchange? I'd even pay the difference in cost...

SuchDogeSoAmazeInteresting you felt the need to speak here. Among my favorite quotes: "Those who know, do not speak Those who speak, do not know."
No need to hate my friend. There's enough of that going around already.

DaveTRONdigitalLook man, just had to point out the sheer ignorance. Random certainly doesn't equate to SOI.
Interesting I felt the need to speak, eh? Tons of people are hating on Massdrop for something that MD clearly isn't at fault for. I'm trying to be supportive of the company that provides the service. It ain't about ego at all, as u tried to imply.

DaveTRONdigitalUnfortunately we're not taking partial exchanges or refunds for part of the order. If you haven't opened the other contents in your box, you can return the entire box using option 3 in Henry's post.

FuzzgoddessWe have a process in place to apply it to the next Blue Box drop. Realistically, if you wait to use it in a future month, we'll honor it, but it will take a bit of effort on your part talking to CS to get it applied.

MarkI appreciate the response Matt, but I didn't realize these items could be returned. And now I have an unopened booster box that I need to sell... Any advice? Can I talk with someone from Customer Service in regard to this? Thanks!

SuchDogeSoAmazeExcept the box was not random as advertised. and therein lies the issue we have with this Blue Box.
Half of the products used to promote this "Blue Box" were not provided to any customer dispite the claim that the box was random, secondly instead of being at all random, EVERY SINGLE BOX WAS THE SAME! False advertisement.
