evesneggYeah! Who wants to pay $50 for earphones that start at $90!?

TLemelinNo need to be rude about it... the drop was $35 before with essentially the same odds; that's what I was referring to with the unexpected price increase. And they're not worth $90+, in fact they sell the very same On2's for exactly $90 here, which are still quoted at $200. The other iems can all be found for less, the ts03s are even 70 dollars on eBay! To be clear though, I'm still participating in the drop because I love a good blue box and the margins are still decent but I wish I had gone in when it cost less for the same odds.

evesneggFair enough. But honestly, most earbuds aren't worth their MSRP. I have a drawer with like six pairs because I can never find any that I like.

TLemelinOh that sucks, sorry to hear! I can't say I'm ever totally satisfied myself. Do you have a preferred signature that you're aware of? Sorry for being so harsh earlier. This was the drop before for context:
Thinksound ms02: 43.5% ($119.99 value) Thinksound rain3: 27% ($89.99 value) Thinksound ts03+mic: 27% ($119.99 value) Thinksound USP1: 2.5% ($179.99 value)
The USP's had a stronger retail price than the on2's and the odds for the rain3's were lower, which in my view is good because of the consumer sound I hear they have.

evesneggThat is definitely a better deal. I can see how $50 is less of a deal after getting in on that.
Currently my Klipsch R6i are my go-to for earphones at work. They're more physically comfortable so I can wear them much longer than my Onemores (which I prefer the sound on but they're heavy as hell so ear fatigue sets in quickly). I tend to listen to rock (metal), EDM, JPop and KPop mostly (don't judge) so I like a little bit of a lighter sound. If I want boomy I go home and turn on my stereo. I think my biggest "issue" with the R6i is that I don't usually get a good seal so the sound quality and stage suffers a bit. I haven't looked into Comply tips for them yet though. (Okay, just did that. Looks like the 100s fit so I might order some and try them out. Historically I haven't had a lot of luck with foam tips before though.)

TLemelinFoam tips wear down on me pretty easily I think; they lose their grip after a while. I use them to improve the bass on my HEM4s but they definitely aren't staying in like they used to. Comply even recommends new ones at least every 6 months.
1More really has something special with their price/performance. I bought their piston headphones on sale for 10 bucks and was blown away despite cable noise, which was easily forgivable considering everything else. The closest I can think of that would mirror that sound are the Soundmagic E80s and the Fiio EX1s. The EX1s are very well-rounded to my ears with a rather comforting bass presence (the F5s would be a good alternative from Fiio with removable cables). The E80s from Soundmagic I feel are more balanced than their other offerings but the build quality isn't very consistent, and the E10s are still well regarded for less. Hope this helps! This hobby is ultimately very trial/error despite what some people (like myself) tell you about sound signatures, so always keep a grain of salt to take with this stuff.

evesneggEvery 6 months isn't unreasonable I don't think. I would start with the variety pack to see which fit I preferred and stock up.
Wouldn't the EX1s suffer from the same weight issue as the Onemores? Since they're full metal bodied as well. Very similar in design. I might try the E80s nex time I'm in the market though. I got a pair of Munitio 9s but they were so uncomfortable due to the body size (another big part of why I like the R6i). I fully agree that this is trial and error. I would never be able to bring myself to "sampling" earphones in a store (*gag*) so I just have to purchase and hope for the best.

TLemelinI think the EX1s are a bit more ergonomic and slim, but I suppose that's true. I haven't worn them long enough to evaluate the comfort, as I only borrowed a pair for a short time. I may buy a pair for myself eventually along with those 1Mores as they look very promising and really took the market by storm. The collection never ends... let's hope for the best in all our future purchases. The budget market should only get better and better!

evesneggI'm considering the NuForce EDC3s that MD has right now. A hundred bucks isn't unreasonable, especially considering the rave reviews they seem to have. Do you have any experience with or thoughts on those?

TLemelinThe EDC3s are very different than my HEM4s, and are more neutral than Massdrop's normal EDCs for $59. I knew someone who had the normal EDCs and they were warm sounding (which is fine) but the build caused problems later down the line. I can't say whether the EDC3s have similar problems. Even my HEM4s are made of mostly cheap plastic, though they haven't caused many problems (yet). Purely from a sound perspective though the $59 EDCs that I tried briefly were incredible value wise, and better in my opinion than other warm sounding options for twice the price like the Shure SE215s.

evesneggHm. Okay, I'll bite. I'll snag the regular EDCs. I don't mind the body being made of plastic. In fact, in many ways I prefer it. That usually means they'll be lighter. I'm also not hard on my earbuds at all so I don't need aircraft grade aluminum. ;-)
I was eyeballing the Shure SE215s before I bought my OneMores. You can catch them on sale for $60 here and there. But! We'll see how I feel about the EDCs. Thanks for your input.

evesneggWell, I got my EDCs and they are, indeed, quite a treat. I feel like they sound better than my Triple driver Onemores... but that could be because they just simply fit and seal better. I have a question though. How the hell do I keep the cables from hurting the top of my ears? =( I haven't tried the second cable yet, but the twisted cable that's already angled is so terribly uncomfortable.

TLemelinThe wire is definitely my least favorite part about the HEM4s... mostly because it also tends to fall off the top of my ear as well. The included shirt clip might help in stabilizing the wire; I've found it to be helpful when going on a long walk. This could also potentially keep the wire from scraping the ear. The other wire has a mic I believe, so the cable isn't braided. Perhaps this could also help with chaffing due to the texture and added mic weight. Hope this helps! I never really cared for the fit of over the ear cables but they sure do isolate well.
