I have the regular black anodized aluminum Lumintop Tool, and LOVE it. I want to get one for my mother and one for myself. I'm wondering if I should favor the Cree or the Nichia LED. My mother does arts and crafts, quilting, etc, and I was thinking it'd be a nice thing for her when she's digging through supplies and boxes to find stuff. Would the Nichia be more suited to that? I'm thinking it would illuminate cloth, etc with truer colors. I'm debating whether to get two of the Nichias, or get one Cree and one Nichia. I LOVE how bright my aluminum Tool is. I've never seen the Nichia in person, so I have no idea if I'd like it as my everyday light, and I think I'd prefer to carry it vs the aluminum one for everyday use. I LOVE brass!

And no, getting three isn't a valid answer! :P Gotta save a little bit of cash for a Switch and Zelda a month from now!

richfilesGet 2 Nichia. Why carry the same thing? I have one cool white and neutral white on me daily. I think coolwhite will always look brighter than warmer white. Your eyes are more sensitivity to the blue content in the LED.

richfilesDefinitely get the Nichia for her. The tint will be much easier on tired eyes.

richfilesNichia all the way! The materials will look their truer colors when your mom looks for them.
This image form CandleLight Forums says it all! In my opinion, other LED emitters create a 'cadaver light' effect (I just made that name up but it's so fitting! 😂).
The Nichia light is in the smaller image, top left (says '219' on the little paper next to the hand). Now which one looks more natural and you would rather have in a flashlight? 😉

richfilesI agree with the others that the Nichia is best for her. The color rendition will be a good benefit and the decreased output isn't an issue if it will mostly be used in small, contained spaces.

BobrazThat really does sell it. I think I'll get two Nichias. If I am ever feelnig the need to blind someone (myself...) with a brighter light, I'll just whip out the black anodized aluminum Lumintop! :P
